“Science and Technologies in Society” Master’s Program: Why and How Do Researchers Study Labs and Startups?
The Master’s program Science and Technologies in Society is currently in its first year of operation at ITMO University. We’ve spoken to Andrei Kuznetsov, one of the program’s tutors, an associate professor at ITMO University and a researcher at the STS (Science and Technology Studies) Center of the European University at St. Petersburg, to find out why scientists study science, who pays for it, and what amazing discoveries have already been made in this peculiar field.

Social Sciences in the Era of Social Networks: Studying Selfies, Likes and Geotags
What is digital philosophy? Why do we need to study Instagram and other social networks? And how can social scientists actually benefit from such research? The workshop Instagram the Almighty: Using Digital Sphere in Research was held within the framework of the Digital Humanities Week in St. Petersburg. Nina Bochkova, a digital scientist and a Master’s student at Nizhny Novgorod Pedagogical University, explained how the humanities can use social networks and why they might need it.

ITMO University and EUSP Launch Joint Master’s Program ‘Science and Technologies in Society’
ITMO University and the European University at St. Petersburg have established a collaboration in the field of Master’s-level education and joint research. This Tuesday, February 19, the Rectors of these two universities have signed a partnership agreement and discussed their first joint Master’s program in the field of social research on science and technology.

WWSSS'17 Brings Together Social and Computer Sciences
The annual WSTNet Web Science Summer School takes place on July 1 to 8 in St. Petersburg. This year, it is organized by the Laboratory of Internet Studies at Higher School of Economics and ITMO University’s International Laboratory “Computer Technologies”. This Summer School is a cross-disciplinary platform for discussion of the impact of the World Wide Web on our society. Today’s scientists draw from both social and computer sciences to study this transformation. WWSSS’17 brings together experts from many fields, but they are all united by their interest in the internet as a social and technological system.
