Living Paintings, Eco-Friendly Education and Compact Robots: The Results of “It’s Your Call!” Winter School
The winter school "It’s Your Call!" 2020, jointly organized by ITMO University and Sberbank is over. Five days of lectures, workshops and teamwork under the leadership of a mentor allowed each of the eighteen teams to complete their own project and defend it as a short presentation. Top six projects made it to the finals, while the winning team received not only the opportunity to enter ITMO University without having to pass the entrance exam, but also valuable gifts – electric scooters.
This year, ITMO University hosted the third winter school “It’s Your Call!” for participants of the “I am a Professional” student competition. Sberbank served as the general partner of the school that annually brings together students from all over Russia. The school consists of workshops, lectures and tours of major companies and research institutions. Last week, the participants went to Laser Systems, a high-tech company based in Strelna. There, they discovered how lasers can help make flights safer and detect the level of someone’s alcohol intoxication and saw a 3D printer working with metal powders.
Throughout last week, ITMO hosted the events of the “I am a Professional” competition’s Winter School. 180 students from 43 Russian regions came to this educational program that was organized by ITMO in collaboration with Sberbank. On its first day, Grigory Bakunov, director of technology distribution at Yandex, gave a lecture on trends that will affect business and technologies in the near future.
Over the course of five days, students from all over Russia will be attending lectures, taking part in workshops and preparing team projects. The winners will get the opportunity to enroll in ITMO’s Master’s and PhD studies without entrance examinations. The event’s general partner is Sberbank of Russia.
The results of the 2019 national student competition “I am a Professional” have just been announced. From a total of 500,000 students from all over Russia participating in this year’s competition, 3,472 became prize winners. This roll call of participants with the best results includes 80 ITMO University students, five of whom were even awarded gold medals. Diplomates of “I am a Professional” get admission perks when applying to Master’s and PhD programs at Russia’s leading universities, as well as an opportunity to partake in an internship at major companies.
Late February marked the end of “It’s Your Call!” winter school, organized by ITMO University in collaboration with Sberbank. Alexey Voloshchuk, the head of the St. Petersburg branch of the bank’s Cyber-Security Center, and Vladislav Verus, one of center’s staff members, contributed to the school’s program with an open lecture during which they shared some insights into the center’s approach to maintaining the integrity of the bank’s network perimeter.
February 20 marked the final, on-site round of “I am a Professional”, a national competition for university students. ITMO University was one of the venues to host the three-hour contest. Participants of the “It’s Your Call!” winter school, which was held as part of the competition, and the final round of the competition itself, talked with ITMO.NEWS about their competition experience. “It’s Your Call!”, a winter school organized by ITMO University together with Sberbank, has just come to a close. Attending this year were 180 contestants of the five educational tracks (Programming and IT, Data- and Cybersecurity, Big Data, Robotics, and Photonics) of the national student competition “I am a Professional”. Over the course of five days, the students took part in project work to find a solution to topical social and infrastructural issues with the help of modern technologies.
