  • ITMO students Took Home Prizes at the Regionals of the Professional Skills Championship

    The VI Open "Young Professionals" Regional Championship (WorldSkills Russia) was hosted in St. Petersburg in December 2020. Students from ITMO's Faculty of Secondary Vocational Education attended the championship: two of them won prizes, and one received a gold medal.

  • ITMO Staff Develop AR-Solution for WorldSkills Kazan 2019 Opening Ceremony

    On August 22-27, the city of Kazan hosted the 45th competition for young professionals, which brought together 1,300 participants from 63 countries. In addition to musical performances and lighting effects, the grandiose opening ceremony involved unique AR effects developed by specialists from ITMO University.   • WorldSkills Winner on His Competition Experience

    At the end of November, Moscow hosted the final round of the II National Championship of Vocational Skills organized by WorldSkills. ITMO University Master’s student Vladislav Nesterov took second place in the Cryogenic Technology and Conditioning Systems category. With each year that passes, the competition is becoming more and more popular: 93 universities were among the participants in 2018, which is ten more than last year. A total of 400 students from leading Russian higher education institutions from 43 regions came to Moscow to compete for victory. In this interview with ITMO.NEWS, Vladislav Nesterov shares about his preparation process and emotional tension he experienced during the competition’s finals.

  • WorldSkills: How World-Class Specialists are Trained in Russia

    At the international skill competition WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017, Russia’s select team has placed first according to its total score with 11 medals and 21 medallions of excellence. Vadim Polyakov, who trained for two years at ITMO’s Center of Competencies, won the gold medal in the category “Refrigeration and Air Conditioning”. Over the years of its operation, the Center has prepared numerous champions of skills competitions – even though only five years ago very few people in Russia knew what the WorldSkills standards are and what skills every modern professional has to possess. Andrey Pivinskiy, member of the WorldSkills Russia expert council, explains how Russia has learned to train champions in just a few years and why WorldSkills is important for universities and the industry.

  • WorldSkills Russia: Why Participate?

    The qualification round of WorldSkills Russia in Laser Technologies has recently taken place at ITMO; this was the first time the university hosted such a competition. The participants showed their skills in working with laser systems and equipment. The round’s winner, Yaroslav Golubev from the Faculty of Laser and Light Engineering, advanced to the All-Russian round that will take place in late November in Moscow.
