Overall, ITMO expanded its presence in the subject rankings from 9 to 10 categories, making it into the 201-240 group in Art and Design. The university also managed to strengthen its positions in a number of fields, including Chemistry (251-300 vs 301-350) and Biological Sciences (551-600 vs 601-640). In addition, it retained its leadership in such categories as Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Physics and Astronomy (151-200), Materials Sciences and Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering (201-250), and Mathematics (251-300).
QS World University Rankings is an annual publication of university rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), which evaluates universities based on their academic reputation, employer reputation, citation rates, and h-index of staff. The ranking is considered one of the most reputable on par with that of ShanghaiRanking and Times Higher Education (THE)
This year, the QS World University Rankings by Subject included 54 disciplines grouped into 5 key subject areas: Natural Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences & Management, and Life Sciences & Medicine. To get into the rankings, universities must offer Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD programs in at least 2 out of 5 subject areas.
Last year, ITMO also debuted in the QS Graduate Employability Ranking 2022 and entered the top 30 of the QS EECA University Rankings 2022.
