How ITMO Celebrates the First Day of the New Academic Year

On September 1, the celebration of first-year students ITMO.GO took place at Aleksandrovsky Park in front of Baltic House. This means that all enrolled applicants can now proudly call themselves students. Of course, for everyone this is a new and important stage of life, because getting a higher education determines not only your future professional skills, but also forms ideas about many things not related to future work. In addition, do not forget about rest and entertainment. And ITMO.GO confirms these words.

Smoothly and unhurriedly the people filled the whole space near the Baltic House. The event was divided into several zones. In the retro games zone, everyone could recall childhood, playing such consoles as Sega and Nintendo. In the FAQ zone, students could receive information about educational programs, cooperation of departments with enterprises, the educational process, the life of the university and internships abroad. In the tent of the student sports club "KronBars" everyone was told about the sports events held at the university, and the sports teams in which you could immediately register. In addition, next to the stage, you could play streetball, table hockey and table tennis. At the OLIMP tent students figured out what you can do at the university in addition to study and sports and how to implement all your initiatives.

Many people became interested in the tent with the Guitar Hero game, in which they could compete in speed, reaction and ability to play the guitar. Nearby was a marquee with Fifa 18 (I am a big fan) on Playstation, a racing simulator where everyone could feel like a Formula 1 pilot and a photobooth where you can capture the first day of being a student.

On the stage there were musical and dance groups, cheerleaders and the KVN (comedy club) team of the ITMO University. Also, the rector congratulated all first-year students on admission and wished good luck in all beginnings.

Of course, there were gifts too. All first-year students received a folder with gifts from the University: the ITMO University bracelet, the student magazine "Megabyte", a stylish notebook, a brochure of KronBars, a cover for the university student pass and a badge in the form of a pixel heart.

In general, this is a very good and interesting event for first-year students, where they can not only have fun, but also learn about information about studies, student's, sports life and job placement in the future.

For me, the special interest was to meet with my groupmates and friends to discuss in which faculty they will be studying and why, how they spent the summer and what their plans are for the future, to take memorable photos and just enjoy the celebration that the university organized. I would like to express gratitude to the organizers, the event hosts and all the ensembles, who performed on stage, as without them this celebration would not take place. This is an indication that ITMO University is interested in organizing such events for its students and their pastime.
