The construction bureau will allow students to try their hand at various domains of drone development, including 3D modeling, prototyping, programming, and construction. All this will be performed under the watchful eye of the experts from ITMO’s Faculty of Control Systems and Robotics and the Geoscan company.

The center will welcome both aspiring and experienced engineers. For the latter, this will also be a chance to hone their leadership skills and become mentors for their younger colleagues.

“Student construction bureaus are a new educational format that will let us efficiently train future drone developers within the National Project of Technological Leadership. Thanks to the center, ITMO students will be able to do their internships at Geoscan while carrying on with their studies. What is important here is that they will acquire not just knowledge – but also ready-made cases for their CVs and an opportunity to implement their solutions into existing products and, of course, impress potential employers,” notes Andrey Zhivitskiy, the head of the youth construction bureau Geoscan-ITMO.

ITMO and Geoscan will provide the center with all the necessary tools and equipment to study, design, and test drones. Moreover, work at the center will be counted as an internship at the company or a practical training within separate educational courses.

“We have received nearly 500 internship applications since the opening of our student construction bureau at Geoscan two years ago. To cater to all potential interns, we decided to involve fledgling specialists in practical activities right at their educational institutions. In the future, we’re planning to open more centers like this one in St. Petersburg and other cities in Russia,” says Valeria Drozdova, the head of the student construction bureau at Geoscan.
