Education

Dell EMC sells products and services related to data storage all over the world. Its headquarters is in the USA. The company has branches in other countries, including St. Petersburg, where the "Software Development Center" is situated.

Specialists of the Center organized the lectures for Master’s students of the Department of Information Systems and Technologies in High-Tech Business. The students also visited EMC’s office in St. Petersburg and its' Data Center. Having completed the course, they received EMC Academic Alliance certificates. According to the head of the Russian cluster of EMC Academic Alliance, cooperation of companies and universities helps both business and students, as companies position themselves in the markets effectively while future experts are able to understand economic trends.

"Knowledge itself becomes outdated. Currently it is more important to deal with new technologies as opposed to perceive information. It means that such skills as adopting new market conditions is becoming a key skill for an IT specialist," says Gennady Smorodin.

Data storage technologies

Companies and organizations stop using their own infrastructures for data storage and use cloud technologies instead. Sometimes it is more profitable than creating their own data center. This statement is correct, especially, when we talk about small businesses, as it is easier to transfer large data arrays. In contrast, it is better for large companies to have their own IT offices in order to have easy access to data and meet safety requirements.

According to the expert, the app market is also expanding, as apps are connected with cloud technologies. Furthermore, it is not true that in the future companies will not have their own infrastructure, but it will be reduced.

Data analysis technologies

The modern technologies of data analysis are used when it is necessary to process a large amount of data or when data is being updated. Currently there are many automatization tools for data processing purposes.

"Many operations turn into routine, as AI can easily deal with them. IT specialists may use artificial intelligence, but development itself has to be done by humans," commented Gennady Smorodin.

There are several markets that need data processing technologies more than others. There are medicine, finances, and urban services. For example, IT technologies help research human genome, analyze data from speed cameras and solve other tasks.

These days, experts in the field of data stream mining are in high demand. The main peculiarity of analyzing data streams is exponentially increasing information, so an algorithm has to be constantly ready for new information. For instance, it is used when detecting the most popular hashtags on Twitter to make search engine advertising and other marketing activities.

Smartphones of the future will be less powerful

It may sound strange, as modern companies always compete in increasing efficiency of devices, but in fact we don’t need very "smart" gadgets when having higher quality network facilities.

"Imagine that you need a couple of seconds to download an app. So why do you need powerful smartphones? You just can download the app, then delete it and download again when necessary. However your opportunities are limited with network productivity. That is why it becomes so important to create networks resistant to loads," notes Mr. Smorodin.

As for computers, low efficiency devices connected to clouds can easily compete with more powerful ones. Another thing, which may become different in future, is interface technologies. Previously we used computer mice, now we interact with devices through sensors, but then such a trend as voice recognition technologies will be popular. That is why it is necessary for IT specialists to be well-informed about tech novelties.
