This weekend, Lev Lurie’s Culture & History Club offers a unique night tour of Peter and Paul’s Fortress - a great opportunity to get a different feel of the famous landmark, immerse yourself in the eerie atmosphere of the old fort, and appreciate the night view of the city from a whole different perspective. Note that you have to register for the tour on the club’s website - and don’t forget to bring some warm clothing in case the night gets too cold!
Another great retreat is the many art exhibitions that are currently held in St. Petersburg. Amongst the most noteworthy ones are The Art of Mihály Munkácsy and Arte Povera. A Creative Revolution at the State Hermitage Museum and the ARCHIGRAPHY project at the ERARTA Museum of Contemporary Art. Also, there’s a peculiar exhibition of modern “live” sculptures in the courtyard of the Mikhailovsky Castle.
Still, the best advice for anyone who’s gotten tired of the commotion in the city is to just leave it for the weekend! Fortunately, there are several great events held not far from St. Petersburg.
Those looking for some action will definitely appreciate the Vuoksi Water Tourism Festival - an annual gathering of water sports fans featuring competitions in kayaking and rafting, different shows, and a lot more. The event will take place throughout the weekend at the picturesque rapids not far from the Losevo train station.
Finally, there’ll be the Renaissance Caroussel festival in Peterhof’s Alexandria Park - a major reenactment show featuring theatrical performances, contests, concerts, and a fair.
See you next week! Yours, ITMO.NEWS.
