• Russia Proposes First Competence Model for Physical AI Specialists

  In collaboration with ITMO, HSE, MAI, MEPhI, and MIPT, Yandex has launched Russia’s first competence model for specialists in physical AI – a comprehensive roadmap that outlines the essential knowledge and skills that specialists need to produce robots and other AI-assisted autonomous vehicles. The developed model became the basis for Yandex Physical AI Garage – a collaborative program by Yandex and its partner universities. At ITMO, the program will be implemented as a separate track within the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Bachelor’s program.

• School Students From St. Petersburg Win FIRST Tech Challenge Italy Championship

  A team of school students trained by ITMO mentors reigned supreme at the international robotics competition FIRST Tech Challenge Italy Championship. The championship welcomed 36 teams from 13 countries. The team will now compete in the final stage – the world robotics championship in the USA.

• ITMO Students Among Best at GSEA Russia Competition of Young Entrepreneurs

  Veronika Boltenkova, a Master’s student of the Faculty of Technological Management and Innovations, won the GSEA Russia competition of young entrepreneurs with her AI solution. The winning project, GOSTer, is an application that automates the formatting of documents according to Russian state standards – and will now receive implementation and promotion support from partners on the Russian and international market. Among the finalists in the Robotics and AI category was also a project by Artem Meinov, a PhD student at ITMO's Faculty of Software Engineering and Computer Systems.

• Boost Your Skills and Get Into a Master’s Program With Roboschool by Sberbank and ITMO

  ITMO and Sberbank have launched a robotics school for Bachelor’s students from all over Russia. Here, top representatives of each partner will hold lectures and workshops in robotics and AI, control and navigation systems, electrical engineering, and digital production. Winners of the school will pass the selection to the It’s Your Call! educational forum and get the opportunity to enroll at ITMO without exams. The Roboschool will be held online, applications are due February 18.

• ITMO Team Wins RoboCup Asia Pacific 2025

  The team of ITMO’s Youth Robotics Lab became the winner of the international RoboCup Asia Pacific 2025. Their robotic saxophonist Fantastic Robby Brown was named best in the creative category RCJ OnStage Secondary. This year’s contest took place in Abu Dhabi and drew over 700 participants from 20 countries.

• Build-It-Yourself: ITMO Researchers Propose Using Chemist Robots for Laboratory Experiments

    Chemists and roboticists at ITMO University have built and tested a robotic platform designed to automate chemical experiments. The robot can independently perform routine operations involving reactions between organic compounds without human involvement. The system is more affordable and versatile than industrial robotic solutions, as it is assembled from 3D-printed components and features open-source software. The robotic chemist has already helped discover that certain chemical reactions speed up in the presence of polymers — a finding that expands opportunities for creating piezoelectric materials and targeted drug delivery systems. The results of the study were published in Materials Horizons.

  The team of ITMO’s Youth Robotics Lab became the winner of the international RobotChallenge 2025 – their robotic saxophonist Fantastic Robby Brown became the best in the creative category FreeStyle Senior. This year’s RobotChallenge in Beijing brought together over 5,000 participants from 42 countries.

• ITMO PhD Student Triumphs at ALCOS 2025

  Nikita Mikhalkov, a PhD student at ITMO, won the 15th international Workshop on Adaptive and Learning Control Systems (ALCOS 2025) for inventing an algorithm that improves small drone navigation. The event was also attended by other ITMO researchers, who chaired six sections and presented 13 reports published in IFAC-PapersOnLine.
