ITMO Graduate’s Startup Uses Neural Networks to Make Online Ads Useful
ITMO graduate Vitaly Sotnikov’s startup NativeOS provides a way to automate native video advertising. The algorithm chooses which videos to embed the client’s advertisements in so that they fit the needs of its viewers. NativeOS is currently preparing for a full-on launch on the US market. Vitaly Sotnikov came to his alma mater on business – and found time to talk to ITMO.NEWS about his project and how it works.

D Notation: New Startup Offers an Innovative Mobile Music Notebook
This summer, ITMO University’s Business Incubator hosted the eight-week program MIT Global Startup Labs by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Over the two months, 29 students and graduates from Moscow, St. Petersburg and Irkutsk, with the help of curators from MIT, assembled into teams, developed prototypes of mobile apps and presented their marketing strategy. In August, teams presented their prototypes to potential investors. One of the teams was the startup d notation – a project that is developing an application for musicians that lets them easily write down notation. Andrey Bayadzhan, the startup’s CEO, spoke to ITMO.NEWS about releasing the project and how digital devices are used in musical education today.

ITMO Technopark Resident Orbi Receives CES Innovation Awards in Wearables and VR/AR
Orbi Prime, the world’s first wearable 360-degree camera glasses with a 4K resolution, were named among the best new innovations in two categories at CES 2018, the world’s largest technology and innovation show. The first batch will be released this August and shipped to the project’s backers. Orbi Inc. has been a resident of ITMO’s Technopark for a year.

Silicon Valley Insights: 8 Global Trends in Tech
The Open Innovations International Forum in Moscow attracts top executives from Russian and international companies, investors, experts, scientists and government officials. This year’s event is focused on the matters of future technologies in the life of people, the economy and the society. Girls4Tech Graduates Present Final Projects
The final event of the acceleration program Girls4Tech was held at Skolkovo Technopark, where 17 teams showcased their projects. Future Technologies Program: Teams Present Projects at Demo Day
On September 21, as part of the St. Petersburg International Innovation Forum (SPIIF), a Demo Day was held for ITMO Business Incubator’s acceleration program Future Technoogies. Ten teams presented their ideas to the expert jury, special guests and visitors. Over the course of five months, the projects have gone through many stages, from initial prototypes to final products, and acquired market introduction strategies. Visitors of the Forum could learn more about ITMO University’s technological projects at a special exhibition.

How to Launch a Tech Project and Succeed
What does one need to get into tech, and, ultimately, launch their own project? A unique idea, a team of professionals, materials, equipment, financing and, first and foremost, specific knowledge that can’t be gained fast and cheap. Not having even one of these things will often make even the most enthusiastic entrepreneur abandon their work before it’s even started. The staff at ITMO’s Student Laboratory OLIMP, however, believes that finding your place in the tech world isn’t as hard as it may seem. Four years ago, a student team had a similar experience, and they are now ready to share it with others. As part of Gogol Library’s “Popular Science Week”, OLIMP’s co-head Kirill Bodrov gave a talk about the traps and pitfalls of technological entrepreneurship, why it’s important to visit FabLabs and science festivals and where to find the right skills and people for a project.

Dave Vasquez: We Need To Start Teaching Entrepreneurship Back In School
Sixteen years ago, Dave Vasquez first came to Russia from Columbia to study Russian language and literature. Since then, he has succeeded in launching several independent projects, participated in accelerators in Moscow and St. Petersburg, graduated from a Master's program in Barcelona and worked some time with American startups. DemoDay: Projects from MIT Global Startup Labs and SumIT Startup School
The SumIT Startup School and the MIT Global Startup Labs acceleration programs have both come to a close at ITMO University. Young entrepreneurs from Russia and South Korea have received feedback from an expert board of staff from MIT and ITMO University’s business incubator. Their ideas were presented to potential investors during the DemoDay closing event on August 10.
