  • ITMO Scientists Analyzed Gaming Behavior to Predict Players’ Gender

    ITMO University researchers managed to determine players’ gender based on the data garnered via an online gaming platform. In this, they were one of the first to apply machine learning to analyze a large body of gaming data. The innovative approach has the potential to improve the personal recommendations system for a more targeted offering of games. It can also be used to detect gaming addictions. The research was presented at the AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence.

  • ITMO University and NEC Corporation to Cooperate on Development of Infocommunication Technologies

    ITMO and a leading Japanese telecom company NEC have signed a cooperation agreement, which stipulates that a state-of-the-art laboratory and data processing center will open at the University. The new institutions will focus on the development of infocommunication technologies in the fields of artificial intelligence, telecommunications, and the Internet of Things (IoT), including the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).   • ITMO University and VR/AR Association Host Japan VR/AR Day in St. Petersburg

    With more than 16,000 members around the world, the VR/AR Association is the world’s largest community of developers and entrepreneurs in the field of VR and AR. Last week, ITMO University hosted this year’s third VR/AR Association meetup, dubbed the Japan AR/VR Day. Among the event’s speakers were representatives of major Japanese companies in the field of innovative technologies. They spoke about the varied applications of virtual, augmented and mixed reality technologies, as well as their potential when combined with technologies such as artificial intelligence. The meeting was organized in collaboration with ITMO University’s Educational Center of Graphic Technologies and Center of Usability and Mixed Reality.

  • MTS Lead Architect Mikhail Mishurovsky on Collaboration with ITMO

  • New York University Professor’s Take on Future of Digital Cities

    Stanislav Sobolevsky is an Associate Professor of Practice at New York University (NYU), the Head of Urban Complexity Research Group and a co-founder of the Insight Data Labs consulting studio. His research interests include machine learning and Big Data, network analysis, human movement modeling, and the theory of differential equations. During his open lecture at ITMO University, he talked about a new scientific field, urban informatics, and in particular what issues it deals with and how it helps make cities more livable.

    On October 14-18, the Sirius educational center in Sochi hosted as many as two prominent events for young scientists and engineers: the summit ‘Big Challenges for Society, State and Science’ and, as part of that, the Congress of Councils of Young Scientists.   • Project RENOIR and Digitalization in the News Industry

    Digitalization has an impact on countless areas of human activity, changing the way we work. Mass media is no exception: news agencies’ day-to-day operations have adopted the use of artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge tech. Last week, ITMO University hosted a lecture by Aljoša Rehar, head of the digital strategy department at the Slovenian Press Agency, who spoke about digitalization in the news industry and project RENOIR, developed by members of the media and the academia (Warsaw University of Technology, Stanford University, and others). ITMO University joined the initiative in June 2018.
