    The VolgaCTF cybersecurity tournament in the СTF (Capture the flag) format has taken place annually since 2011, and a team from ITMO has won it for the second time.

  • Russian Teams Took First and Third Place at Sports Hacking Competition CyBRICS 2020

    This is the second time that the international tournament has been held. Because of the pandemic, the 2020 competition was organized in a simplified way: there was one online round for everyone wishing to participate. CyBRICS 2020 also broke last year’s record in terms of the number of participants: it brought together almost 1,500 teams from all over the world, with 786 of them scoring better than zero. Thus, CyBRICS remains the largest sports hacking competition organized by a Russian institution.

  • Data Security Master’s Programs at ITMO University

    Financial systems, transport, power lines, hospitals, even home PCs – all these things need security. The nature of the threats is different, and so are their goals. At ITMO University’s Faculty of Secure Information Technologies (FSIT), Master’s students are learning to predict, pinpoint, and eliminate vulnerabilities in all kinds of computer and cyberphysical systems. In this article, we’ll explore what it’s like to study at FSIT and work side by side with industrial partners such as Sberbank and Gazprom Neft.

  • Results are In: Online Round of ITMO University’s CtF Competition CyBRICS Comes to an End

    More than 750 teams from around the world took part in the recent online round of CyBRICS, a large-scale computer security competition for participants from the BRICS countries: Brazil, India, China, South Africa, and Russia. As one of the event’s organizers, ITMO University will receive the winners of the qualifying round when they come to St. Petersburg in September to compete in the final round. The competition is developed and run by members of the SPbCTF community.

  • ITMO University Teams Take the Crown at Yauza CTF-2019, RealCTF and FaustCTF Cybersecurity Competitions

    ITMO University teams came in top places at the cybersecurity competitions Yauza CTF-2019 (gold, silver and bronze), RealCTF (silver and bronze) и FaustCTF (the SPbCTF team emerged second). ITMO.NEWS met winning teams’ members, all students of Information Technologies and Programming Faculty and the Faculty of Secure Information Technologies, to talk about their experiences.

  • ITMO University Team Takes Third Place in RuCTF 2019

    At the end of April, the Russian city of Ekaterinburg hosted RuCTF, the biggest competition in the field of cybersecurity in Russia. The event brought together 28 teams from Russia, Germany, Switzerland and other countries, including a total of three teams from ITMO University, one of which took third place.

  • ITMO.KIDS Carry the Day in SPb School CTF-2018 Information Security Tournament

    On October 6, ITMO University hosted SPb School CTF-2018, the second regional school competition in the field of information security organized by ITMO together with the Association of Chief Information Security Officers (ACISO). It may not surprise you that ITMO University school team ITMO.KIDS took first prize, but what is remarkable is that the winning squad only consisted of two people: Artem Zaglubotsky, an 11th-grader from the School №261, and Yuri Grishin, a seventh-grader from the School №486. The two powerhouses competed against teams that included six people on average.

  • UniverSum Summer School: Competitive Hacking for School Students

    The coordinators of the SPbCTF project held a “Hacking and security” workshop for the participants of the  UniverSum  summer school which took place in Munich from June 27 to July 11. What makes  UniverSum  truly special is its unique educational approach: students are allowed to choose their own educational track. This autumn, SPbCTF will launch a new season of workshops on sports hacking for school children and students of St. Petersburg.
