  • Interactive Games, Drones, and Thousands of Participants: ITMO.GO Celebration for First-Year Students in Review

    On August 31, to mark the start of a new academic year, ITMO University hosted ITMO.GO, a large-scale celebration that brought together students, lecturers, staff, graduates, partners and friends of ITMO. During the event, over 4,000 first-year students of Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD programs were officially welcomed into ITMO.FAMILY. At the celebration, they had an opportunity to learn more about the first days of their studies, take a fun photo with an A+ gradebook for luck, and also play chess, do some rowing or have a go at table hockey. Apart from that, the festivity marked the start of ITMO University’s 120th anniversary year celebrations, opened by Rector Vladimir Vasilyev.

  • Graduation Party with a View: Fourth ITMO.Live Festival Celebrated at Peter and Paul Fortress

    For the fourth year in a row, ITMO University students received their diplomas in the heart of the historic St. Petersburg, beside the walls of the Peter and Paul Fortress. For the second year in a row, the celebration united graduates of all levels: Bachelor’s, Master’s and specialist studies. By tradition, the grandiose festival ITMO.Live was held on the first Saturday of July and open to any citizen or guest of St. Petersburg and friend of ITMO University wishing to attend. Graduates with the most successes got their diplomas from the hands of ITMO University rector Vladimir Vasilyev. The venue of the open-air included a range of interactive zones featuring a faux marriage registry, innovative ice-cream, photo ops and board game areas. A total of more than 4,000 people came to ITMO University’s graduation party this year.

    Every year, some time around March 21st, the sun shines on the whole planet equally. On this day, when the sun rises on the North Pole for the first time, people from many countries in the northern hemisphere celebrate this day as the beginning of a new year and the start of spring! We talked to some of our international students and staff here at ITMO to learn more about how this event is celebrated in their home countries and what it means to them.
