  • ITMO University Transferring Students to Distance Learning Until February 6

    As a means of preventing the spread of the coronavirus infection, the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education has made a decision to transfer all universities in Moscow and St. Petersburg to distance learning until the end of the semester – February 6, 2021. An associated decree was published on November 11. ITMO University will conduct its educational activities online with the use of distance learning technologies. The order signed by Vladimir Vasilyev, Rector of ITMO University, as well as sanitary and epidemiological requirements, are available here (in Russian).

    The coronavirus-imposed restrictions in St. Petersburg continue to be gradually lifted. However, the epidemiological situation could still worsen. Therefore, in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and the order of the St. Petersburg Government, from July 26 till August 16 ITMO University will continue working remotely for the most part. ITMO University Rector Vladimir Vasilyev has already signed the corresponding order.

    Early 2020 was a highly unclear time for the food tech industry. On the one hand, the coronavirus pandemic has led to a mass closing of restaurants and reduced demand for the products of food production facilities; on the other hand, it brought about a boom in the food and grocery delivery market.     During the current coronavirus pandemic, even leaving one’s home is always a risk. Each time, people are faced with a dilemma: going to the store or ordering delivery? Taking the subway or walking to work? ITMO University researchers have developed an application that demonstrates how tightening or loosening self-isolation and quarantine measures would have an effect on the infection rates in various countries. This project is a part of a larger initiative on the modeling of social processes in the conditions of a pandemic.
