  • New Semester At The Children's University

    It is the start of the spring semester of the Children's University - an educational project for primary and secondary school students. Up until the mid-May, lecturers from leading educational establishments, including ITMO University, will train its participants on a weekly basis. Some of the educators who have already tried themselves as lecturers for the project shared about how it helps get children involved in science.

  • Ilya Nikiforov, Founder Of TeachMePlease, On Blockchain in Education

    15 years ago, Ilya Nikiforov studied at ITMO University at the Department of Mechatronics, then in the Faculty of Computer Graphics and Internet Technology. As a person who has studied at different educational institutions, Ilya knows a lot about the Russian educational system. As of now, the former student is head of Teach Me Please - an ambitious project that will soon become one of the first platforms to introduce blockchain in the field of education. ITMO.NEWS talked to Ilya about such issues as how employers perceive a potential candidates’ diploma, why it is necessary to write honest resumes, how can one substantiate them and how blockchain can help with it.

  • Teaching 3D Tech to School Kids in Moscow

    Caliber, the technopark for teenagers aged 14-17, is running for the fifth time in Moscow. Here, young enthusiasts learn about 3D modeling technologies, motion capture, and virtual, augmented and mixed realities. In cooperation with Caliber, the Department of Engineering and Computer Graphics at ITMO University has developed unique courses with the participation of a special virtual guide, and has also become a partner of the technopark in order to help train high school students.

  • Game Development Education in Russia and the World

    Last weekend, ARTPLAY design space hosted the gaming festival Game Planet 2.0. ITMO University, too, joined the fun, setting up its own interactive zone at the venue. Guests honed their gaming skills, watched a cosplay show and attended lectures. Among the speakers was Andrey Karsakov, an Associate Professor at ITMO’s High Performance Computing Department and head of the “Technology of Game Development” Master’s program. Karsakov spoke about higher education in the field of gamedev in Russia and the world and its future prospects.

  • Tournament of Two Capitals: Schoolkids Show Off Robotics Skills at Regionals

    The regional qualifying stage of the "Tournament of the Two Capitals", a robotics competition for schoolchildren, took place in St. Petersburg on November 26. More than a hundred teams built autonomous robots, which raced on a “highway”, built bridges, balanced on a swing and played "King of the Hill". On the same day, a regional qualifying stage of T2C was also held in Moscow. Teams that showed the best results in both cities will meet in mid-December at the tournament’s finals at ITMO University.

  • "Assemble a University": Nationwide Hackathon Contributes to NTI Project

    The new educational project University 20.35 has been launched as part of Russia’s National Technology Initiative. Its goal is to train the specialists of the future who will implement projects for high-tech markets. University 20.35 will be a digital network university that will make use of the country's best programs and courses. Every student’s educational path will be personalized and based on modules. University 20.35 is currently in its development stage; from November 7 to 9, a nationwide hackathon “Assemble a University” has been conducted so as to contribute to its creation. Students,  developers and startupers presented their ideas and prototypes of instruments that can be used for the project; ITMO.NEWS learned about the future university from the very people who aspire to study there.

  • Project Session at Sirius: Implants, Security and Nano-Shampoo

    This summer, the Sirius educational center for talented children in Sochi has held its usual session on project work, followed by the Nanograd summer school. ITMO University’s team, including specialists and postgraduate students from the Department of Nanophotonics and Metamaterials and staff of Technopark resident, company NT-SPb, took part.

    During the past several years, gamification of educational processes has become a trend in many areas. When getting ready for the Unified State Examinations or learning foreign languages, more and more students now prefer interactive forms to traditional textbooks. For this purpose, programmers create different platforms, but how can one learn programming in a similar manner?
