ITMO Students Develop AI Model to Detect Car Malfunctions
Daria Ledneva and Timur Ionov, students of ITMO’s Institute of Applied Computer Science, became winners in the Artificial Intelligence and Data Analysis Olympiad (AIDAO) organized by Yandex Education and HSE University. Their team, AI Capybara, suggested an AI model that detects car malfunctions – a solution that drew the interest of the ridesharing service Yandex Taxi (Yandex Go).

500 Dates of Science: ITMO Presents Digital Networking Assistant
At this year’s Congress of Young Scientists, participants could make use of a new digital networking assistant, ёTalk. This Telegram bot helps researchers and students find interesting acquaintances, as well as discover potential new collaborations. In the event’s three days, nearly 1,500 users have signed up for the bot, with over 200 people meeting at ITMO University’s booth.

Smart Expiration Date Indicators Developed at ITMO
Researchers at ITMO University have developed fluorescent, quantum dot-based indicators for smart packaging – they can detect the actual expiration date of meat, fish, and chicken. When the indicator’s glow becomes dim under UV light, the product is no longer safe for consumption. The research team behind the idea was named one of the winners of the reality show Passion for Grants, in which contestants compete for grants from the Russian Science Foundation, and secured 6 million rubles for their research.
