  • Creative Technologies: A New Core Course at ITMO University

    In September 2018 ITMO University launched a new core set of disciplines titled ‘Creative Technologies” for first-year Master’s degree students. Based on the experience of leading global universities, the course aims to foster the students’ creative thinking and abilities and consists of online classes involving top creative figures from Russia and abroad. The program was developed by ITMO University’s lighting design experts Natalya Bystryantseva, Ilia Smilga, and Elena Lekus. In an interview with ITMO.NEWS, the course’s authors shared some insights into the new university-wide initiative.

  • Entrepreneurial Culture: A Look Into the New General Course at ITMO

    The past semester at ITMO University was marked by the introduction of a new set of core disciplines called Entrepreneurial Culture. As part of the initiative, 1,800 out of all 2,500 first-year Master’s students attended the course “Project Management” taught by 30+ staff members of ITMO’s Faculty of Technological Management and Innovations (FTMI) and the Institute of Entrepreneurship, professional trainers and entrepreneurs.

  • University of Twente’s Stefano Stramigioli: Robotics Is About Giving Machines Life

    Stefano Stramigioli first got into robotics after watching Star Wars as a kid. Today, he is the chairman of the Robotics and Mechatronics Group at the University of Twente (the Netherlands). Last year, his research team developed the world’s smallest breast cancer diagnostics robot. The group’s researchers collaborate with major companies like KUKA and Siemens, and develop drones and other robotic systems. Prof. Stramigioli, who is co-heading the ITMO Bio-mechatronics and Energy-Efficient Robotics Lab and recently came to ITMO University to give a series of lectures for students and young researchers, sat down with us to talk about medical robotics, working with ITMO, and finding inspiration.

  • SURF Stanford US-Russia Forum: Science Communication and Diplomacy

    The SURF Stanford US-Russia Forum is a year-long program for students and specialists from Russia and the USA who want to study the most relevant issues of today together. Each year, participants of SURF get to work alongside each other on research projects in the fields of politics, science, business, and others, to complete an unusual research/diplomacy program and to present the results of their work at Stanford University. This year, one of the program’s participants was Daria Denisova, the deputy head of ITMO University’s Science Communication Center. She spoke with ITMO.NEWS about taking part in SURF and getting to work with a space scientist from MIT.

  • Motasem Awaja’s Journey: A 2018 Open Doors Scholarship Winner

    This year the Open Doors Russian scholarship project was launched for the first time! Supported by the Russian government, this special scholarship allows talented students from around the world to enroll in Master’s programs at leading universities in Russia for free. One of the finalists of the competition who was accepted to ITMO’s Master’s of Information Security this year, Motasem Awaja, tells us his heart-stirring story of how this scholarship really opened doors for him to come and study in Russia.
