  The annual summer Camp in Programming welcomes students from all over the world who get hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge in programming and machine learning. This year, the challenge was accepted by students from Luxemburg, USA, Azerbaijan, Venezuela, China, India, and Russia. We caught up with some of them to talk about their experience here.

  In our previous article about Russian literature, we’ve only slightly touched upon the subject that I find the most interesting: Soviet science fiction. As a fan of science fiction in general, I’ve always thought that, despite its name, the science aspect of the genre is often used as merely a background for exploring various contemporary psychological and social issues, and allows the writers to create the perfect setting in which to share their perception of human nature and our common future.

• Participants of ITMO Summer School on Topological Photonics on the Latest Trends in the Field

  ITMO University’s International Research Center for Nanophotonics and Metamaterials has recently hosted the Summer School on Topological Photonics. In the course of five days, young researchers – Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD students – listened to lectures by leading specialists from Russia, Europe, the US, and Korea. The event brought together over 60 participants from many Russian cities, as well as Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the UK, Mexico, Turkey, and other countries. The school was followed by the 4th International Conference on Metamaterials and Nanophotonics METANANO 2019.

  Friday June 21 marked the conclusion of the 10th meeting of ITMO’s International Council, the hub of the University’s strategic framework working to help enhance its competitive performance as a leading higher education institution with an international outlook. The prominent experts forming part of the Council assembled in St. Petersburg to discuss this meeting’s topic “Entrepreneurship and Tech Transfer”.

• French Embassy Counselor Visits ITMO University

  ITMO continues to develop and expand its international partnerships and collaborations. This week, the University welcomed Abdo Michel Malac, the Counselor for Science and Technology at the Embassy of France in Russia. Mr. Malac met the staff of the Faculty of Physics and Engineering and spoke of the Embassy’s willingness to offer support in conducting joint Russian-French events. He also attended the opening of a new Russian-French laboratory at ITMO University.
