  • ITMO’s Robotics Team Wins Silver at World Robot Olympiad 2019

    The 2019 World Robot Olympiad, an international robotics competition for talented school and university students from over 70 countries, has just come to a close in the city of Győr, Hungary. Led by coach Igor Lositsky, ITMO University whizzes took second place, surpassing more than 30 teams in the Senior High age category. They presented their project LEGO Education Helper, a smart table that cleans itself.

    Cross-cultural studies expert Mona Abdel Malik Khalil has earned her PhD at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and is the author of numerous scientific articles that focus on culture and communication between Russia and Egypt.   • ITMO University Among Leaders of 5-100 Russian Academic Excellence Project

    On October 25-26, 2019 the Council on Global Competitiveness Enhancement of Russian Universities (Project 5-100) convened for its 12th session in Moscow. Over the course of two days, universities participating in Project 5-100 presented the results of their work and their development plans for the future. Upon conclusion of the session, the project’s participants were sorted into three groups, ITMO University being ranked among the top 7.

  • Returning to the Path of Human: St. Petersburg to Host Lighting Design International Conference

    “No matter how much we talk about the progress and the synthesis of technologies, no magic will happen until there is one irreplaceable component – a human being,” says Denis Astakhov, CEO of Avocado Toast, of the main idea behind the international scientific-practical conference “Lighting Design” in 2019. We stand on the brink of the Russian lighting industry development, where previous approaches lose their relevance. While some companies anticipate changes, and others try to solve short-term problems, there are those who look to the future and consider the possibility of creating a comfortable lighting environment in the context of digitalization. Organized by ITMO University together with the State Hermitage Museum and the ARCHCLUB social and professional project, the “Lighting Design” conference will be dedicated to this particular topic, as well as the role of humans in the lighting industry development.

  • ITMO University Students Will Represent Russia at CyBRICS Winter School

    The final round of the CyBRICS international competition in the field of computer security initiated by ITMO University has recently come to an end. The event united the best teams from Russia, China, India, Brazil, and South Africa, who competed for the right to participate in the CyBRICS winter school, which will take place in St. Petersburg this winter. An ITMO.NEWS correspondent met with the event’s organizers to find out more about the competition and sports hacking.
