    An awards ceremony for the winners of the national student contest I Am a Professional has recently taken place in Moscow. The star of the event was Zakhar Yakovlev, a fourth-year student at ITMO’s School of Physics and Engineering, who became a runner-up in seven categories and a winner in two more, becoming the contest’s all-time record holder.   • SPIEF 2022: ITMO Students Among Finalists of International Cyberdrills

    The team from ITMO’s Faculty of Secure Information Technologies repelled all attacks during international cyberdrills that took place at St. Petersburg Economic Forum (SPIEF). Their task was to respond to a cyberattack on the city’s power grid and prevent a blackout. Students and cybersecurity specialists from Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Syria, Pakistan, and Vietnam took part.

  • ITMO in Top 3 of I am a Professional Contest’s Medal Count

    ITMO University placed second in the medal count of the fifth season of the national student competition I am a Professional, as was announced on May 31 after the competition’s wrap-up. The university’s students got 11 gold, 8 silver and 8 bronze awards, 27 in total. This has become the first time ITMO got into the top 3 of the participating universities.

  • ITMO Youth Robotics Team Wins RoboCup Russia Open 2022

    The team of ITMO’s Youth Robotics Lab became first in the RCJ OnStage category among school students aged 14-19 at the national round of RoboCup 2022. At the contest, the team Simple Dimple presented their musical robots who performed Caprice No. 24 by Niccolò Paganini and Kalinka Malinka by Ivan Larionov. The show featured a robot (playing the balalaika), one of the team members (playing the dombra), and robot matryoshkas as their backup dancers.

  • The Results of Ethical Hacking Competition for School Students

    ITMO’s International Scientific and Academic Center "Security and Safety for Critical Digital Technologies" has recently held Neva CTF – a competition in information security among school students. This year, the contest brought together 28 teams from 21 schools in St. Petersburg and Moscow.

  • From Physics to Dancing: How ITMO Students Design Their Own Optional Courses

    Not only the university’s lecturers but also students can now share their knowledge and experience with others thanks to the Students for Students initiative. The idea for this project was born last fall. The project participants have spent two and a half months developing their own courses under the guidance of experienced mentors and held their first classes already in April. ITMO.NEWS talked to the participants to learn more about their projects, how they were created, and why they can be beneficial for both students and lecturers.
