I Am a Professional is a flagship project of the platform Russia – the Land of Opportunities that is supported by the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

The competition is open to Bachelor’s and Master’s students in diverse fields, including technology, humanities, natural sciences, pedagogy, and medicine. This year’s contest includes 10 tracks, among which are Computer Sciences, Engineering and Technologies, Medicine and Healthcare, Arts and Humanities, and others.

The contest seeks to assess students’ theoretical and practical knowledge by allowing them to work on challenges that are as near to real-world cases as possible and practice for their future jobs. The competition tasks are created by professionals from renowned Russian institutions and organizations.

This year, ITMO University in partnership with Sberbank is in charge of three tracks, namely Programming and IT, Robotics, and Information and Cyber Security.

“The choice of tracks is defined by our expertise in these fields – ITMO is a seven-time world champion in competitive programming and one of the country’s best institutions for IT and robotics, according to RAEX. We strived to make our tasks practice-rich and exciting for the participants,” shared the organizers of the event from ITMO University.

The participants will have the chance to test their skills, as well as attend educational events, get career advice, and complete their internships at leading Russian companies. While both winners and medalists will receive benefits when enrolling in the university’s Master’s and PhD programs, medalists will also be granted cash prizes of 100,000-300,000 rubles.

Applications will close on November 14, 2023. The selection round will run from November 17 to December 3. The final round will be held between February and April.

The results of the contest will be announced in May, 2024. Another highlight of next spring will be ITMO’s forum It’s Your Call! that will feature talks from academic experts and industry leaders, workshops, career guidance events, corporate tours, and a case championship.

ITMO students regularly take part in the I Am a Professional competition. Last season, Zakhar Yakovlev, a first-year Master’s student at ITMO’s Faculty of Physics, won a total of eight medals, establishing a new record.
