ITMO University Hosts Potanin Foundation Competition
This year, it will be the first time for ITMO University to host the final selection for the Vladimir Potanin Scholarship Program. From January 30 till February 3, the second onsite round is taking place at ITMO’s campus; 328 students from 11 Russian universities gathered in St. Petersburg to participate in the competition. Interstellar Performance: ITMO Student Wins Gagarin Scholarship
41 students from 14 Russian regions participated in the second annual open competition for the Yuri Gagarin scholarship. Tatiana Shemigon, Master’s student at ITMO’s Department of Applied and Computer Optics, was among the three winners of the award this year. She is the first ITMO student to receive this prestigious scholarship.

ITMO Student Wins Sberbank Scholarship to Develop Neural Network for Investment Planning
Natalia Khanzhina, Ph.D. student at the Computer Technologies Department, is the recipient of a scholarship from Sberbank. The fledgling researcher took part in an IT project competition that required her to make a system that would create customized investment portfolios for customers. The program involves deep-learning technology; after completion, it will be adopted by the bank’s system while Natalia herself will have the opportunity to intern in the company’s IT department or even find employment there.

PhD Students Win Research Scholarships in Germany
In the beginning of October, three of ITMO's PhD students will go on an internship to Germany which will last until the end of March. The Mikhail Lomonosov program funded by DAAD and the Russian Ministry of Education and Science will offer the students an opportunity to conduct research in European universities and science centers. ITMO's PhD students spoke about the research they will be doing there.
