    The Chevening scholarship is one of the world’s most well-known and prestigious and covers students’ full costs of Master’s education at any university in the UK, as well as some of the living expenses. The competition is tense, with some 30 times more applicants than there are open spots. But getting a Chevening scholarship is still doable if you put in the effort, believes Asya Kazantseva, a popular Russian science journalist and writer. This year, she was awarded a scholarship to study in a Master’s program in molecular neurobiology at the University of Bristol. During a recent open lecture in St. Petersburg, Ms. Kazantseva shared a few tips and warned of the common pitfalls made by Chevening applicants.

  • Five ITMO University Scientists Awarded SRIE Scholarship

    A group of young scientists from ITMO University have been named among the recipients of the 2019 Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship handed out by the International Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers SPIE. A total of five ITMO University staff made it to the list of winners, securing the university’s first place in terms of the number of awardees.   • Over 300 Students From 14 Universities Compete for Potanin Scholarship at ITMO

    For the second year in a row, ITMO University became the only venue in St. Petersburg to host the onsite round of the Potanin scholarship contest. In the course of three days, some 360 Master’s students from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Krasnoyarsk, Yekaterinburg and Chelyabinsk competed in business games, learned to work in teams and presented their results to the expert panel of judges. Participants with the best results will be awarded with a monthly scholarship of 20,000 rubles. More on the contest in this article.

  • Alfa-Bank Scholarship Winners on How to Innovate the Most Innovative University Out There

    Alfa-Chance, a scholarship contest organized by Alfa-Bank, has recently come to an end. After three competition stages, the organizers and expert committee selected the best three out of 63 shortlisted candidates to be awarded a scholarship prize: Ekaterina Subbotina, Ivan Timakhovich and Timofey Timofeev.   • ITMO University and Russian eSports Federation Launch Scholarships for Gamers

    ITMO University and the Russian eSports Federation have launched Russia’s first-ever scholarship for cyberathletes. To become a recipient, students need to score well on their Unified State Exam (USE), enroll in a tuition-free program and win the cyberathlete portfolio competition. Recipients of the scholarship will be given a monthly stipend of 10,000 rubles throughout their first semester; those who pass their first exam session with high marks will continue receiving the stipend in their second semester.

  • ITMO Student Wins Eiffel Excellence Scholarship

    A list of recipients of the 2018 Eiffel Excellence Scholarship has recently been published, and Daria  Kuznetcova , a postgraduate student at the Department of Applied Biotechnology, is among the 60 doctorate applicants awarded the scholarship. Participation in the program provides young scientists an opportunity to conduct their research in collaboration with leading French experts in their field. Daria's current research concerns functional foods that can be used to prevent the development of neurodegenerative diseases. ITMO.NEWS asked Daria some questions about her project.

  • ITMO Student Wins IEEE Undergraduate Scholarship

    This year six young scientists from the USA, Canada and Russia were awarded an IEEE MTT-S Undergraduate Scholarship. Maxim Masyukov, a fourth-year student at the Faculty of Photonics and Optical Information, was among the winners. MTT-S is the biggest international society of experts in microwave, millimeter-wave, and terahertz technologies. The society exists as part of the IEEE, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and provides scholarships to students and postgraduates. Maxim’s research concerned the development of a chiral metasurface with tunable polarizing properties in THz frequency range. ITMO.NEWS asked him some questions about how to win such a scholarship.

  • Science Communication at the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation

    Alexandra Borisova from ITMO’s Science Communication and Outreach Office spent a year in Germany at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, one of Europe’s leading science communication centers. She was awarded a German Chancellor Fellowship (the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation) that allowed her to work on her research project on science communication in Russia.
