ITMO's Technopark Establishes Cooperation with a Major Food Production Company
Resident's of ITMO Technopark and the university's research teams presented their research and inventions at Atria Russia's production plant in Gorelovo. Members of the university's delegation acquainted themselves with the technologies used by the company and discussed potential collaboration projects, including new methods of tagging raw materials and tracking their consumption, inspection of meat product contamination, as well as the use of functional blends.

Everybody Wants a Piece of the Pie: Why Universities Need to Create and Support Innovation
One day – and that day might come very soon – the Earth’s resources will run out, its population will exceed 10 billion and people need to innovate to sustain development. Issues will begin to emerge that can’t be dealt with without innovative solutions. Even today, humanity encounters problems that can’t be solved by conventional methods. Universities become sources of ideas – but how can these ideas be commercialized? How to find investors to support the process of innovation? How do universities retain their scientists and how can scientists get rid of the obstacles on their path to discovery? These were the topics of discussion at an open seminar at ITMO University, given by Professor Manijeh Reyhani – a researcher at the Centre for Entrepreneurial Management and Innovation (CEMI) at the University of Western Australia who has received her PhD in Materials Engineering and a Professional Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) in the area of research innovation and commercialization.

ITMO University Graduates Will Help Integrate Technological Innovations

Solar Panel of the New Generation by ITMO PhD Student
On one hand, solar panels are a green solution, but on the other, they are very expensive and not very effective. However, cutting expenses on them will increase the popularity of this alternative energy source. ITMO’s PhD student Mikhail Omelyanovich is working on reducing the cost for solar panels using perovskites and laser ablation. ITMO.NEWS talked to Mikhail about his development.

ITMO University Becomes the Co-Founder of CINPET Innovation Center
On March 27, ITMO became one of the co-founders of the new Center for Innovative Research, Development and Production Technologies, CINPET. The new center will focus on solving problems that have to do with the city economy, including those related to energy. IT-Breakthrough in St. Petersburg: from Machine Vision to Smart Feeders
Last week, ITMO University hosted the regional round of the All-Russian project contest in IT — the IT-Breakthrough. 11 representatives from ITMO University and Saint-Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation presented their projects in the field of robotics, computer security, mobile applications and radio electronics.
