    On November 25-26, the city of Khabarovsk played host to the first strategic session of the national program Priority 2030. Participants joined forces to flesh out the next specific steps in the transformation of the Russian Far East’s universities and the development of education in various regions of Russia. Discussions were moderated by rectors of the nation’s top universities, including Daria Kozlova, ITMO University’s First Vice Rector and head of its 2030 Development Strategy.

  • First Time in Such Detail: Researchers Analyze Surface Properties of Spider Web

    PhD students and researchers from ITMO’s SCAMT Institute and their collaborators from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) have analyzed the surface properties of the Linothele fallax spider’s silk and how they affect the properties of the material as a whole. The study demonstrates that spider web can be used in both surgery and food packaging.

  • ITMO Students Receive First Place at DevGAMM Awards

    Students of ITMO University’s Faculty of Digital Transformation (Master’s program Game Development Technologies) have placed first in the Best Student Game category at DevGAMM Awards 2021 and secured a prize of $4,000. The competition was held as part of the game developer conference DevGAMM – the largest of its kind in Eastern Europe. The event is held annually in Moscow, Kyiv, Minsk, and other cities in the region.

  • ITMO Researchers & Collaborators Develop New Algorithm for Linking Genes and Specific Diseases

    Researchers from ITMO’s Laboratory of Genomic Diversity and the World-Class Research Centre for Personalized Medicine have developed GPrior (gene prioritizer), an algorithm that uses data from a genome-wide association study (GWAS) to identify the genes responsible for a particular disease. For this study, the group used the data on schizophrenia, coronary heart disease, and inflammatory bowel diseases to test the algorithm.   • ITMO to Host I Am a Professional Contest

    The university will be in charge of three key tracks: Robotics, Programming and Information Technologies, and Information and Cybersecurity, as well as corporate track Technology Entrepreneurship (jointly with Gazprom Neft). Sberbank will act as the main partner of ITMO’s tracks. The contest is supported by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation as part of the Social Elevators for Everyone initiative of the national project Education.

  • ITMO Student Wins AI Journey Contest 2021

    Ammar Ali, a PhD student from ITMO University’s Information Technologies and Programming Faculty, has become a winner and runner-up, respectively, of two high-profile competitions in AI and computer vision: AI Journey Contest by Sberbank and Evraz AI Challenge by Evraz. Thus, the student continued his winning streak, which began in early 2021 when he won a competition organized by the American National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and supported by NASA. We talked to Ammar to find out how he managed to combine these two latest achievements and what he plans to do next.
