Head of Mitsubishi Electric’s Department of Conditioning Systems: Why Working with Universities Is Our Top Priority
‘Development Trends of Life Support Systems’, a new educational project organized by ITMO’s School of Biotechnology and Cryogenic Systems together with the Russian branch of Mitsubishi Electric, the world’s leading manufacturer of state-of-the-art utility systems, has just started at ITMO University. The project consists of a series of workshops by the company’s specialists, who will brief students on which cooling solutions for data storage and processing centers have already been developed since the start of the ‘Yarovaya package’ implementation period, and how Mitsubishi Electric’s heat pumps, as well as split-air conditioning and water-cooling systems are used in the industry and beyond. The project will give the students, researchers and scientists of ITMO University a unique opportunity to learn more about hi-tech equipment and the latest trends in the field of energy conservation and renewable energy technologies. ITMO.NEWS met with Alexandra Bazhanova, Head of Mitsubishi Electric Russia North-West’s Department of Conditioning, Ventilation and Heating Systems, to discover which goals the company plans to achieve by cooperating with universities and why young professionals need to be up-to-date with the modern trends in the field they are, or will be working in.

Digital Manufacturing and Automated Factories: ITMO Students Develop Projects for Diakont Company
Starting from this year, Diakont Jsc and ITMO University have launched a new subdivision, the Institute of Intelligent Industrial Technologies. What’s more, the partners are currently collaborating on a network Master’s program; its students get the opportunity to combine study with work, get jobs in hi-tech fields and introduce their inventions. In future, they will also be offered a chance to do internships at Diakont’s new plant in Italy. Founder of MEL Science Vasily Filippov: Only Those Who Work Hard Are Successful
“What do you think was the first chemical reaction in the world?”, it is with this curveball that Vasily Filippov, founder of MEL Science, a company which designs chemistry kits that help children make their first steps in science, opened his lecture at ITMO University’s SCAMT Laboratory. But this experiments-based venture is an experiment for Vasily himself: he embarked on this adventure after an impressive fifteen-year record of developing mobile apps. Daria Lampadova from Megabyte Media, a student media outlet powered by ITMO University, quizzed the entrepreneur on what prompted him to quit his successful career of a programmer and how he plans to revolutionize the approach to modern education.

Open Innovations 2018: Higher Education in the Digital Age
What makes a good education system in the digital era? What training methods are the most effective? And what kinds of challenges do modern technical universities face? These and other questions are being discussed at the annual Open Innovations Forum which is currently taking place at the Skolkovo Innovation Center. CEO of TuSion on Participating in Startup Festivals
TuSion is a neurogaming app that helps users develop their cognitive abilities by playing with the power of their minds. The app allows to decrease one’s level of stress and increase productivity. In the past, the team participated in ITMO’s Future Technologies accelerator. Since then, the project has undergone many changes, and its team has participated in many startup festivals and contests. Their members have recently returned from the *ship international festival in Finland where they made it into to the 10 best startup teams, and will soon participate in an acceleration program in New York. We’ve spoken to TuSion’s CEO Andrei Hapsasov and learned how the project changed over time, whether there is any point in participating in contests and conferences, and how to participate effectively.

Maria Renee Marroquín Pineda has recently finished the first year of her Master’s studies at ITMO’s Cryogenic Technology Department. Before entering ITMO University, she spent four years studying ecology at Tver campus of Moscow Humanitarian Economic University (MHEU). Cindicator: A Startup To Ease You Way Into Cryptocurrency Markets

Heaven for Startups: Russian and Finnish Experts Discuss Helsinki Business Culture
How does a startup enter the European market via Finland? How should you present your project to foreign investors? What are the differences between the business community in Helsinki and those in other European cities? Novice entrepreneurs from St. Petersburg found answers to these and other questions during the Helsinki Business Boost, a business course launched by ITMO’s Technopark, Helsinki Centre representative office and Venture Family consulting agency. Participants received personal advice from experts, while the winners received tickets to Arctic 15, a business contacts exchange for startups in the Nordic and Baltic countries, which will take place in Helsinki on May 30-31.
