St. Petersburg Government Approves Design of Sports Complex at ITMO Highpark
Recently, the Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of St. Petersburg approved the architectural design of a future sports facility at ITMO Highpark, the university’s new campus located in the Yuzhny satellite city. Four-Lane Highway To Connect ITMO Highpark With St. Petersburg
Equipped with sidewalks, bike lanes, and bus stops, the road (ca. 1.5 kilometers in length) will run along the railway line from an interchange of Kiyevskoye Shosse (near the railway station Kondakopshino) to the administrative borders of St. Petersburg.

ITMO Highpark to Promote St. Petersburg Human Capital
At the recent conference St. Petersburg of the Future – 2022, experts discussed the coming construction and development of several major research and educational clusters that will stimulate the growth of the knowledge economy and human capital in the city. Among the upcoming projects, ITMO Highpark was deemed closest to completion. In 2024, it will turn into one of St. Petersburg’s new points of development alongside the Yuzhny satellite city.

New Way to Digitize: ITMO Students and Staff Invited to Take Part in University’s Digital Transformation

Ex-Chairman of European Parliament’s Committee on Transport and Tourism Michael Kramer on Developing Cycling Tourism
Michael Kramer is an experienced bike traveler, member of the European Parliament (2004-2019) and the European Green Party, the Chairman of the European Parliament’s Committee on Transport and Tourism (2014-2017), as well as the initiator of the EuroVelo 13 – Iron Curtain Trail project, a cycle route of over ten thousand kilometers stretching from the Barents to the Black Sea. He has recently participated in the BizCycle international project held in Vyborg with ITMO University as its leading partner. In this interview with ITMO.NEWS, the expert shares about the experience of European countries in developing cycling routes and why it is beneficial for the economy.

BizCycle: Moving Towards Comfortable Biking Infrastructure on Russian-Finnish Border
How to create a bike-friendly environment in the border regions of Russia and Finland, help cycling tourists effectively plan their itineraries, and foster the development of local businesses that would cater for such travelers? These are some of the questions in the center of the BizCycle international project. Having kicked off in November this year, it is now being implemented as part of the South-East Finland – Russia Cross-Border Cooperation program, with ITMO as the leading partner. The university’s specialists will work on the project together with representatives of Finnish companies, the Committee for Tourism of the Leningrad Oblast, and the Tourism Information Center. The objectives and stages of BizCycle’s implementation were recently discussed at a briefing organized for St. Petersburg’s cycling community. ITMO.NEWS reports on the keynotes of the meeting.

Computer Simulation to Make Cities Cleaner
Egor Smirnov, a graduate student at ITMO, who is currently working at ITMO’s Institute of Design & Urban Studies has come up with an algorithm for planning path networks using dynamic behavioral modeling. The project will soon be presented at the ICCS Conference in China. Egor Smirnov told ITMO.NEWS about why pedestrian networks planning is important and what ordinary people can do to solve this problem.

ITMO's Business Incubator Transforms, Will Focus on Acceleration
On November 30, Vladimir Vasilyev, ITMO’s Rector, announced at the "Ecosystem of Innovations" forum in Sochi that the university’s business incubator is undergoing a serious transformation. Youth Foresight Festival Tackles Future of Transportation
Last night, at Peter and Paul fortress in St. Petersburg, a special opening of the Russian Youth Foresight Festival “Pravo Rulya” [or “Go Starboard!”] took place. The festival is devoted to transport and traffic. ITMO University’s Faculty of Technological Management and Innovations (FTMI), St. Petersburg’s Education Committee and St. Petersburg’s City Youth Art Palace are organizing the event for the second time for school and university students from the ages of 7 to 25. The festival will go on for an entire week, during which future transport systems will be discussed. ITMO.NEWS writes about the opening and what to expect in 2050.
