Interfax’s National University Ranking was first established in 2010. The evaluation is based on a survey filled out by representatives of universities, publicly available data published on the websites of the participating universities and the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education, as well as information collected by analytical systems SPARK Interfax and SCAN Interfax.
Universities in the ranking were evaluated based on six criteria: education, research, social environment, international and interregional partnership, branding, as well as innovations and entrepreneurship. Then, their grades were normalized to a 1,000-point scale. Thus, the final ranking is an arithmetic total of six parametric rankings.
In this year’s ranking, ITMO University shares the 11th and 12th place in the overall ranking with Tomsk Polytechnic University. At the same time, ITMO is rated fifth in research and eighth in innovations and internationalization.
A total of 358 universities, including 17 first-time participants, were included in the ranking this year. The list includes all of the nation’s best-known higher education institutions: 29 national research universities, 10 federal universities, 33 flagship universities, 101 universities-participants of the Priority 2030 program, as well as four government and seven private universities.
