4 Must-Visit Hidden Spots in St. Petersburg
Classical St. Petersburg is known to all for its magnificent palaces and canals, parks and cozy squares. Everyone wants to see the majestic cathedrals and fascinating drawbridges. However, there is also another St. Petersburg that the residents of this beautiful city know about. Today, I am going to share several interesting places with you.
1. In the central part of St. Petersburg, you can find courtyards in the form of wells. Walls of the buildings surround the whole yard. From the outside, it looks like you are at the bottom of a well. Such yards as in St. Petersburg, you will not find anywhere else. There are a lot of rumors and legends for how courtyard-wells appeared. One of the theories is that the city had difficulties with land in the center and to save space, the buildings were built as close together as possible. The "courtyard of spirits" is a place where wishes come true. Be ready to see a small courtyard, the rays of the sun almost do not get there and it looks depressing. Everyone who has been there, has said, that the courtyard gives off emotions. It is bad luck if someone tells you the location of this courtyard. So, you can find it yourself on Birzhevaya line 4 on Vasilievsky Island.
2. Near the "courtyard of spirits", there is an even more interesting place. Behind a beautiful facade of the ancient building of the pharmacist Dr Pel' hides an unusual courtyard with a high pipe. This is the "tower of griffins" or "digital tower". The tower has received the name Dr Pel' as this Doctor was engaged in alchemy and has concealed the secret of the philosophers' stone in figures. These figures are on the tower. Add up a line of figures, so that your wishes may come true.
3. Everyone has heard that St. Petersburg is a rainy city. Wet weather very often visits the Northern Capital, and sunny days are very rare even in the summer. The informal image of the most frequent St. Petersburg's natural phenomenon is embodied in a surprisingly exact composition. The sculpture looks simple. Inside the monument there is an inverted umbrella cutting the glass with running water. It’s located in the Izmailovsky Gostiny Dvor. There is a tradition that tourists and residents of the St. Petersburg ask for good weather near this statue.
4. The Monument to the Hole on Mayakovskogo St. 3. It seems that someone has forgotten a huge stone, but actually, it was set for improvement of the city. In the middle of the stone, you can see an accurate round hole. According to legend, if you put your hand inside and make a wish, it will come true in 6 months.
