A Day in the Life of an ITMO Student
When I was in high school, my guilty pleasure was watching YouTube videos about the everyday life of different people. When I watched them, I dreamt about being like those people, living a life like they did. And now it’s my turn to tell some guys and girls that someday some of them will really live like that.
Unfortunately, I don’t have a videoblogger’s gift (it's even less fortunate when I think about their salaries) but I can try to write about my day. Who said people don’t read these days?:)
So, my day starts at the dormitory. Today the sun is shining which makes this day already better than some others. After a quick breakfast of oatmeal and coffee and not so quickly choosing what to wear, I’m going to my first class.
Today it’s volleyball (I'm tall and the time is convenient for me but other students can choose anything from yoga to badminton). The class is going well, maybe the sun is a little bit disturbing but for me it just adds more happiness. After that, food! A really full lunch at the cafeteria after which I can barely walk. So it’s the best chance to walk! I have some time before the next class and I can take a long walk to the other building. Walking slowly through the streets of St. Pete is one of my favorite things in this life. The next stop is my favorite bookshop.
I like to wander around between the impossibly beautiful bookshelves and maybe find a new interesting book. I grab a cup of cocoa with marshmallows and go to the next stop, my favorite thinking place. It’s a small park where I can read my new book and drink some warm cocoa.
Finally, I’m going to my classes. After spending enough hard-working time there (a few presentations and really hard tasks, chatting with classmates and sometimes trying not to sleep), I’m going to the next place.
Today is the Buddy system birthday party! We are going to dance and play bowling and roller-skate and have fun! We’re taking pictures, competing in dancing and laughing really hard. After these wonderful 4 hours, we run for the last tram. 1.00 am and I’m at the dormitory again. Some midnight chats with my roommate and then a full 6 hours of sleep. After all, classes are at 10 am tomorrow.
Obviously, that day was wonderful. But it was rather a usual day than a rare one. Of course, I have days when I have 5 classes in a row or I need to do my homework all day long but then days like that happen and you understand that your life is truly amazing. If I had a chance to talk to a past version of myself, I would say that everything would be as great as you dreamt. Just keep going and don’t stop working on your dream. And if you are some boy or girl out there who dreams about being a student in St. Petersburg, being a student at ITMO University, don’t stop believing in your dream. Don’t trust anyone who tells you that you can’t do something. You can. If I could do it, why can’t you?
