ITMO at a Glance

Who Are Our Graduates?

Not only ICPC champions or professional researchers graduate from ITMO’s Information Technologies and Programming Faculty. Many of the graduates are programmers who founded their own businesses or built a career with successful startups. In this installment of his blog, ITMO University’s Professor Anatoly Shalyto considers the many trajectories and possibilities of professional development and talks about the career opportunities that are only limited by what a student wants.

My Impressions After 5 Months in St. Petersburg

With a sense of satisfaction, I feel that I have made the most of every opportunity I had here. ITMO University plays an important role in this statement and also plays the living experience per se.

From High School Graduation to Diploma: Expectations vs Reality

It is always challenging to find yourself and stand up for your ambitions. The last year of school is an enormously significant period when choices surround you all the time. Moreover, when it comes to picking a university, you have no other way but to rely on someone’s words because of your own lack of experience. There are many articles which can clearly illustrate students' lives and their opinions, but sometimes it is better to compare two subjects in order to get the desired result. That is why I conducted a survey and gathered information about the most crucial aspects of students' current life which they imagined differently.

The Best of Upcoming Music Concerts in St. Petersburg in 2020

It is already the beginning of 2020, so the new concert season is ready for its kick-off. Even though most of the summer festivals haven’t revealed their line-ups yet and we will get many surprises later, a bunch of shows have already been announced. Here’s a quick overview of seven most interesting, in my opinion, music events that will happen in St. Petersburg in 2020!

New Year’s resolutions (kind of)

So 2019 is almost over. What? So fast? (Checking the calendar twice) or was it as fast as we remember? This year was quite ambiguous. But what did we learn or not learn thanks to this year?

Coconut, peach or mango?

Last night I was talking to my friend. We were discussing how Germans and Russians are alike in some ways. My friend told me: "You and I are coconuts. But, for example, Americans are peaches" and I couldn’t help asking: "What if I want to be a mango?"

Meeting and Talking with International Students

How do you start communicating with people from around the world? Are the Portuguese so patriotic? How much do we have in common with the French? This is my fourth post about my exchange semester in a small Czech city Zlin and I’d like to tell you about communication with people from other countries. In fact, meeting people was the best part of the term, because first of all it has greatly enriched me as a person. You can find my other posts here.

Yagodnoe Trip: A Chance to Strengthen Ties Between Russian and Exchange Students

You are in another country, so different from your hometown. Deep down, you know you are a little bit afraid about everything. You are out of your comfort zone even with the most ordinary actions in your routine. At ITMO University, thankfully, there is an organization which aims to help exchange students: the Buddy System. It is composed of Russian students from the University who, amongst other things, are responsible for arranging and preparing an amazing event: the journey to Yagodnoe. This place is a property of ITMO University and there are cozy houses, many facilities and beautiful landscapes, with no phone service. A perfect environment for students to better understand each other and enjoy nature.

From the Capital: A Trip to Moscow

The sky is clear. The wind is not so strong. The sun is slowly setting, and the tallest trees are as interconnected as any big forest by the road. Darkness is slowly becoming light. It seems like the last rays of the sun and the yellowing of the sky lasts only a short while and then the end of the day and the start of the night will begin.

St. Petersburg Russia: A Stunning Global Paradise

While it is a lowly-hyped global destination, St. Petersburg remains a stunning tourist hub! Not only is the city endowed with a broad array of unique attraction sites, but also with a diverse cultural center and home to the world's renowned artefacts. St. Petersburg welcomes you to a beautiful, well-planned, and clean environment, coupled with multiple stunning sceneries. The second-largest city in Russia, and arguably the most beautiful destination in the country is strategically located at the mouth of the Neva River, on the shore of the Gulf of Finland. It spans across the Northwest Federal District, in the Leningrad region of the Russian Federation. Its federal importance to Russia cannot go unnoticed, ranging from being an administrative center to the best tourist attraction destination in the country.
