How do you and your teammates make practice fun?

While we train at the gym, we usually just play music through a Bluetooth speaker. But when we’re outside on the boat then the situation is completely different. You should be 100% focused, especially when training as a group, all movements should be synchronized so it’s more demanding. Thankfully, we are always encouraged by our coxswain, which is the person on the boat that leads the navigation and steering.

What are the three reasons why you like being part of a team sport?

Team competitions are fun. We have cool parties after competitions. It creates strong friendships.

Yes, the mood before a competition makes a big difference.

Is it difficult to balance sports with school work?

No, it is not difficult, sport helps me relax from university classes. After training, it is much easier to focus on studying.

How does ITMO support you?

ITMO provides a gym for us to train in. It also partially sponsors the sports equipment, and pays for transportation to the competition venues.

Can you tell us about one or two things you do that help you train?

I try to observe my daily routine and sleep time. Also an important element in training is nutrition. I try not to eat fast food, I don't eat too much fat. But I don't limit myself very hard in this regard.

Have you had any serious injuries?

No, I haven’t, and that's good. You need to be careful.

Have your parents always been supportive of your sports activities?

My parents have always supported me in my sports activities and I appreciate it very much.

How did you practice rowing during the pandemic?

In that situation, I was lucky. I went to a dacha (a Russian country house) with my team. We have everything we need there. A large lake where we can where we can practice rowing. Also, there is  a gym, which was built from improvised materials. We live together, study, and play board games in the evenings. We are never bored, there is always something to do.
