The Mummy

As someone with a list of unwatched classics, I try to fill those blind spots whenever the mood strikes – so this month, I finally got around to watching The Mummy (1999). Even though the CGI hasn’t aged that well, the story of Egyptian tomb raiders still feels rather compelling to follow, the main characters are likeable and charismatic, and the funny moments are indeed amusing. I may have seen it before as a kid, but either way, I had a great time. It gives off the vibes of a comfort adventure – perfect for a night in. – Marina

Karelia

The Republic of Karelia was one item on my must-visit list that seemed so easy to cross off – it’s located only a couple of hours' ride from St. Petersburg. Yet it wasn’t until this February that I finally set foot in this beautiful region. All thanks to my sister, who convinced me to join a tour to Ruskeala Park and several towns along the way. The weather may have been unpredictable, but it turned out perfect for enjoying the sunlit marble cliffs, icy water, and pine forests.

The trip also inspired my next one: when it gets warmer, I’m heading back to Sortavala to take a closer look at its Finnish architecture and enjoy another bowl of the delicious Finnish fish soup. – Elizaveta

Knitting with the Bridgertons

No, it’s not the title of some new show or podcast; it’s just me catching up with the Bridgerton phenomenon six years too late and learning to knit in the same month. As for the series, I get the hype – it’s the perfect escape from reality! Intricate, sometimes bizarre costumes, a guaranteed happy ending, and a loving family at the crux of it all. And don’t forget the pop-songs-but-with-strings soundtrack.

I’ve knitted half of my first ever scarf over three seasons, all the time feeling grateful that I can actually do more with my life than that, unlike the ladies in the series. Now, I am nearly ready to experience the last four episodes of season 4 with the rest of the world (and hopefully finish that scarf in the process!). – Catherine
