Library
If you are ever in need of escape from the tourist-occupied Nevsky, the National Library of Russia on Ostrovsky Square is just the place to go. Its spacious main reading hall is so quiet that some of the visitors even nod off during their study sessions. In summer, it can also provide respite from the heat while still offering a gorgeous view on the greenery of the nearby Yekaterininskiy Sad.
Museum
As the city of museums, St. Petersburg can boast all sorts of unusual destinations – like the Museum “In Silence” on Galernaya St. During a guided tour, you put on special headphones that muffle all sound, and explore the museum space through your other – now sharpened – senses. Tip: weekday tickets are cheaper, student discounts are also available.
Island
Hidden right in the city center, Kamenny Island has a “time has stopped here” vibe. Nearly no cars and often very few visitors, it’s hard to imagine that this island is surrounded by the noisy arteries of highways that somehow do not stretch all over it. Home to several historic mansions, it’s definitely worth a work or even a few on your summer outings in the city.
District

Surrounded by hustle and bustle, Kolomna remains among the quietest – and definitely the most peaceful one in the city center. With its theaters, concert halls, places of worship, and narrow streets, it charms all anxious thoughts away. Coffee lovers will also rejoice at the abundance of hidden treasures of specialty coffee shops in the district.
At ITMO
What’s the quietest space at ITMO? Well, there is no contest here: it has to be the sound and electromagnetic wave-absorbing anechoic chamber at the School of Physics and Engineering on Lomonosova campus. Apart from looking cool, it is often used in all kinds of experiments: for instance, for discovering new photonic properties of dielectric resonators! Even if you are not a student at the school, you can still see the chamber for yourself – look out for regular open days announced on our social media (VK and Telegram).

For those craving peace on Kronverksky campus, there is a special solo-coworking booth by VK inside the main coworking space on the third floor. If it’s already occupied, you can also always go to the quiet coworking space nearby.
