For those who desire to learn more about the way people celebrated the New Year in the Soviet Union and the Russian Empire, the St. Petersburg Toy Museum, the first private museum in the city and the second toy museum in Russia, is hosting an exhibition of Christmas decorations from the different periods of Russian history: from the 1930s’ pioneers figures and cheap cotton toys to the 1960s’ satellites and rockets. The museum is open every day from 11am till 7pm. Entrance ticket costs 200 rubles (and 100 rubles for students). Great news for jazz lovers! This weekend, as many as two amazing jazz events will take place in the Northern Venice: the New Year’s Festival at the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Hall (a series of concerts on January 11-13 each kicking off at 7pm; tickets cost 2,000 rubles), and a jazz concert by the Olympic Brass band at one of the most atmospheric and peculiar cathedrals in St. Pete, the Lutheran Annenkirche church (at 7 pm on January 13; tickets cost 500 rubles and can be booked here).
