In 2026, ITMO received 5.71 points and came second in the general ranking. HSE University with 6.75 points tops the ranking, while Lomonosov Moscow State University with 5.63 resides in the third place. In the accumulated ranking for 2023-2026, ITMO climbed up one position and became second; the university also ranks second in the ranking of universities that attract talented Bachelor’s graduates of other universities to their Master’s programs.
In the 2025/2026 academic year, 97 ITMO students became winners of the Vladimir Potanin Scholarship Contest. This means that starting from February 2026 and until the end of their studies, they will be receiving a 30,000-ruble monthly stipend. In 2026, five ITMO lecturers won the foundation’s grant competition, each receiving 500,000 rubles toward the creation and redesign of educational products for training of in-demand specialists.
The Vladimir Potanin Foundation university ranking has been published annually since 2004. It evaluates the performance of students and lecturers of Russian universities in the foundation’s educational initiatives. In 2026, the ranking’s organizers considered 13 criteria, including the involvement of students in the scholarship contest and its results, the achievements of lecturers in the grant competition and the Professional Development contest, university representatives’ performance in the Potanin Foundation School, as well as student participation in the My Na Svyazi (“Staying Connected”) project.
