  • ITMO Lecturers Win 2.5 Million Rubles From Vladimir Potanin Foundation

    Five lecturers at ITMO University were granted 500,000 rubles each by the Vladimir Potanin Foundation for the redesign and advancement of educational programs to train sought-after specialists. Additionally, the university made it into the grant competition’s top 3 for the number of approved applications and the top 5 – for the number of supported initiatives.

  • Smart Expiration Date Indicators Developed at ITMO

    Researchers at ITMO University have developed fluorescent, quantum dot-based indicators for smart packaging – they can detect the actual expiration date of meat, fish, and chicken. When the indicator’s glow becomes dim under UV light, the product is no longer safe for consumption. The research team behind the idea was named one of the winners of the reality show Passion for Grants, in which contestants compete for grants from the Russian Science Foundation, and secured 6 million rubles for their research.

    Recently, the Foundation for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises has announced the results of Student Startup, a competition of technological projects. Among the winners are 55 ITMO students, who each won 1 million rubles to support the development of their projects.

  • New Program for High-Achieving Applicants Launches at ITMO

    ITMO PRIORITY, a program of personalized support for applicants who perform well in Russian national student contests or scored 100 points on two or more Unified State Exams in related subjects. Among other bonuses, participants of the program can receive travel grants for their move to St. Petersburg, an additional stipend of up to 25,000 rubles, a personal manager, a place in a dorm in the city center, and more.   • ITMO Receives 5 Million Rubles to Support Young Scientists

    ITMO University has won the competition of student research associations organized by the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The university will use its 5-million-ruble grant to fund an international conference of young sciences, a career fair, a competition for the best scientific project, and nine other events that will help students find like-minded peers and boost their research skills.

ITMO University has once again shown great results, maintaining its stance as the top participant of the Research Leadership track.   • ITMO’s Advanced Engineering School Awards 1.5 Million Ruble Grants to Interdisciplinary Teams’ Tech Projects

    Advanced engineering schools have been launched across the country in 2022 as part of a federal project. Its main goal is to train principal engineers who can assemble interdisciplinary teams and use data-driven approaches to integrate new products into partner companies’ processes. ITMO’s Advanced Engineering School is part of the effort. Recently, it has awarded grants of up to 1.5 million rubles to ten interdisciplinary teams made up of ITMO Master’s and PhD students. We spoke to some of the winners about their projects and future plans.
