  • ITMO Scientists Create World’s First Wirelessly Chargeable AA Battery

    Scientists and students from ITMO’s Faculty of Physics have developed the world’s first AA battery that can be charged using any wireless Qi station. Resembling a typical 1.5V battery on the surface, it actually contains a curved receiving coil, voltage converters, and a rechargeable battery. With the new device, it’s possible to enable wireless charging in devices that don’t have USB ports, from computer mice and remotes to radios, toys, and flashlights. The device is described in a paper published in IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics.

  • 28 ITMO Projects to Receive Over 390 Million Rubles from Russian Science Foundation

    Young researchers from ITMO have won 28 grants from the Russian Science Foundation (RSF) in three competitions. As a result, in 2026-2028, the university will receive over 390 million rubles towards independent research projects headed by young researchers, as well as ongoing research. The supported projects focus on physics and metamaterials, AI and mathematical modelling, new functional materials, and quantum physics.

  • ITMO Tops Russian University Ranking According to Student Opinion

    The career development platform Changellenge has unveiled its annual Best Company Award ranking, in which students and graduates assess their universities on quality of education, career opportunities, and their readiness to recommend the university to applicants. This year, ITMO topped the ranking, rising by two positions compared to last year. Students also ranked ITMO among the top three choices for Master’s studies.

  • ITMO Now Offers New Master’s Track in Photonics

    ITMO University will train engineers and researchers capable of developing photonic chips and optoelectronic devices for AI systems, data centers, and telecommunications.   • ITMO Student Svetlana Trusova Wins Europe Youth Kiteboarding Championship

    Svetlana Trusova, a student of ITMO’s Faculty of Applied Informatics, has won the gold at the recent Formula Kite Youth Women’s European Championship and came second in the international ranking. The competition took place on July 2-5 in Gizzeria, Italy.

  • ITMO-Based School Student Team Wins Russian Robotics Olympiad

    The team of ITMO’s Youth Robotics Lab came first in the senior creative category of the Russian Robotics Olympiad in Orenburg. The team presented an autonomous AI-based waste collector robot that can function in natural surroundings. The device can help maintain natural reserves and parks without disturbing their ecosystems.
