  • Flexible Electronics and Sensors: Researchers Develop Improved Method for Copper Micropattern Printing

    Scientists from ITMO University and the Institute of Chemistry of St. Petersburg State University have developed a more affordable and efficient method that makes printing copper micropatterns on a glass surface 100 times faster. The resulting micropatterns can be used  in various devices, such as chemical sensors, flexible electronics, and anti-theft systems.

  • How ITMO Trains Specialists in Public Health Sciences

    Last year, the university’s Center for Science Communication launched Russia’s first-ever English-language Master’s program in public health sciences. Its students train to become specialists in medical research, epidemiology, healthcare, and health economy. The program’s first students are already participating in major medical research. We spoke to Anton Barchuk, an oncoepidemiologist and head of the program, and Ksenia Spiridonova, the program’s coordinator, about the program and its benefits.

  • ITMO Scientists Develop Nanostructured Temperature Indicator Based on Carbon Dots and Nanocellulose

    Researchers from ITMO’s ChemBio Cluster and University of Toronto discovered a nonlinear dependence of photoluminescence of carbon dots on the composition of a water and dimethyl sulfoxide solvent. The color of the same dot sample changes depending on the polarity of solvent it is placed in. Thanks to this discovery, the researchers were able to develop a portable wide-range (from -68°C to +19°C) temperature indicator, which can be used to control the storage conditions of chemical, pharmaceutical, and food products.

  • ITMO Holds First Forum for Winners of National Mega Contest

    This spring ITMO hosted the first national Mega Contest, winners of which can enroll into the university’s Master’s programs without entrance exams. A total of 1,348 participants, Bachelor’s graduates of years 2020 and 2021 from various Russian cities, competed in 13 tracks, with only 41 of them making it to the top. The winners received travel grants to get to the Mega Forum, where they got to know the university, advanced their skills at workshops, and participated in a hackathon.

  • ITMO University Joins the FISU Healthy Campus Program

    The university has recently received the healthy campus certificate from the International University Sports Federation (FISU). This initiative aims to promote a healthy and green lifestyle, as well as physical activity, sustainable development, and gender equality in universities across the world. Program representatives commended the university's achievements in sports and ecology, as well as its Well-Being strategic project, which will all be soon featured in the FISU Healthy Campus’s best practices collection and thus provide guidance for other universities worldwide.
