• Record Number of Students Enroll at ITMO via Academic Competitions

  During the 2022 admissions campaign, ITMO University has welcomed into its ranks 609 winners of national and regional academic competitions. This is a record number for both St. Petersburg and the university itself, exceeding the second top university’s count by almost twofold.

• ITMO Among Leading Russian Universities in RAEX Ranking

  The Three University Missions ranking system scaled up – for the first time ever, it also includes 29 subject rankings. Experts have identified leading universities in various fields, from machine engineering and robotics to philology and journalism. ITMO University made it to the top 10 of the rankings in these 29 categories cumulatively.

  On March 26, our beloved university is going to celebrate its 122nd year of existence. Starting its journey as the first school to train specialists in the domains of mechanics, optics, and watchmaking, ITMO’s journey has been no less than an adventure. • ITMO in Top-Three of Potanin Foundation Scholarship Contest

  The Vladimir Potanin Foundation recently announced the winners of its scholarship contest for Master’s students – this year, 61 ITMO University students were included in the list. Starting from February 2022 and until the end of their Master’s studies they, as well as other winners, will receive a monthly stipend of 25,000 rubles. In total, students from 75 Russian universities took part in the contest. ITMO and Lomonosov Moscow State University share second place in the amount of their students who were granted the scholarship this year.

• ITMO University in 2021: A Year in Review

  This year we celebrated 121 years of ITMO University. As with any other year, we had no shortage of challenges – but nothing we couldn’t rise above. There were also great new achievements to be proud of, such as grants, prizes, and awards and some extraordinary research accomplishments. On the international scale, we welcomed nearly 900 new international students.

• ITMO Youth Robotics Team Outshine All at RoboCup Asia-Pacific 2021

  Friendly Friends, the team of ITMO’s Youth Robotics Lab, and their robot musician Robert Robotecky placed first at RoboCup Asia-Pacific 2021. At the tournament final, the robot performed Sous le Ciel de Paris and Blue Canary while riding a hoverboard.

• ITMO Student Wins AI Journey Contest 2021

  Ammar Ali, a PhD student from ITMO University’s Information Technologies and Programming Faculty, has become a winner and runner-up, respectively, of two high-profile competitions in AI and computer vision: AI Journey Contest by Sberbank and Evraz AI Challenge by Evraz. Thus, the student continued his winning streak, which began in early 2021 when he won a competition organized by the American National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and supported by NASA. We talked to Ammar to find out how he managed to combine these two latest achievements and what he plans to do next.

  The annual “Academician N. M. Emanuel Memorial” award is given to the most successful Russian and international scientists who work in the field of chemical kinetics, physiochemical biology, biotechnology, and biochemical physics.
