• ICCS 2017 Kicks off in Zurich

  International Conference on Computational Science (ICCS) 2017 got off to a great start in Zurich, Switzerland, on June 12, with top researchers exploring the latest developments in computational methods in a variety of scientific fields. It’s organized by our partners at the Computational Science Lab of the University of Amsterdam, among other distinguished organizations, and is supported by ITMO University.

• QS World University Rankings: ITMO Among Top 2% of World’s Universities

  ITMO University has made its debut in QS World University Rankings, placed 601-650 in the global ranking. This year the QS company evaluated more than 4,300 higher education institutions for its ranking, of which 980 have ended up in the final list – 62 more than last year. There are approximately 26,000 universities in the world, meaning that ITMO University is among the world’s top 2%. This spring, ITMO University also made its debut in QS’s Subject Rankings being placed 351-400 in two subjects: Computer Science & Information Systems and Physics & Astronomy.

• ITMO University’s Scientists Receive Prestigious Ulrich Award

  The award for achievements in the field of sol-gel technology was granted to Vladimir Vinogradov, Head of ITMO University’s International Laboratory "Solution Сhemistry of Advanced Materials and Technologies" (SCAMT) and to Alexander Vinogradov, head of ITMO’s Biochemistry cluster. This prestigious international award has been given to young scientists from all over the world since 1991; 2017 marks the first time it goes to scientists from Russia.

  The eighth annual national university rankings prepared by the International information services group "Interfax" have been published, formed on the basis of the 2016-2017 academic year. The number of universities included in the rankings has increased by 26 with a total of 264 Russian universities. ITMO has climbed five places, and is not the 7th top university.

  On June 5, the St. Petersburg Theatre of Musical Comedy was the setting of a special award ceremony was held for "TOP 50. Most Influential People in St. Petersburg". Sobaka magazine is for the 12th time picking out those personalities in the city who have made a significant contribution to the cultural, social, sport and scientific life of the city over the past year. 2017 marks the first time that the list of nominees features ITMO University, which organizers have named the number one newsmaker in the field of education in this last year. And for all those who have been voting since April: ITMO University’s team became the winner in the category "Science and Life"!

• Rusnano Head Chubais: Five New Nanotech Clusters in Russia by 2027

  In the next ten years the Russian nanoindustry will be expanded with five new technological clusters. These are: windpower, solid-waste recycling, flexible electronics, industrial energy storage and nanomodified material. They will join the six clusters that have already been established in Russia since 2007. Anatoly Chubais, head of “Rusnano”, spoke about this at an open lecture in ITMO University. During the talk he analyzed the development of the Russian nanoindustry over the last ten years and gave his forecast on the industry for the upcoming 10 years.

• Young Scientists from ITMO University Receive Presidential Grants

  On May 30, during a special ceremony, 53 young scientists from St. Petersburg's universities and institutions of the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg were given presidential grants. ITMO University was represented by five researchers who received grants in the Physics and Astronomy category. In an interview for ITMO.NEWS, the researchers shared about their research.

  The NAFSA 2017 exhibition & conference is coming to an end today in Los Angeles, USA. It was held on 28 May - 2 June with over 9,300 educators from around the world including leading universities from Russia participating in Project 5-100.
