• PhD Programs at ITMO University: Admission Campaign-2017

  ITMO University's 2017 admission campaign for PhD students has already started; this year, the university accepts PhD students to 20 different programs. • Geek Picnic-2017: Richard Dawkins, Cyborgs, VR and Psychological Experiments

  The first day of Geek Picnic, the largest European open air festival dedicated to popular science, modern technology, science and art included lectures on humanity's biological future and cybertechnologies, a presentation by Richard Dawkins, and ITMO University's interactive zone where anyone could immerse into modern science. By tradition, the festival was held on a weekend’; this year, it took place in the Pulkovo Park on the south of St. Petersburg.

• THE Rankings: ITMO University Gets Into Europe's Top-200

  Recently, the Times Higher Education ranking agency published its rankings of the best European universities. This is the first time the agency has created a regional ranking like this; the reason for doing so is that among the best universities of the world that are part of the Times Higher Education University Rankings, more than 40% are from Europe. ITMO University has secured its September's success in THE WUR (World University Rankings), having got 3rd place among Russian universities presented in the rankings and 191-200 position among Europe's leading universities.

• ITMO's PhD Students Will Simplify Online Learning On OpenEdX

  Scientists from ITMO's Information Science and Semantic Technologies (ISST) international laboratory and their colleagues from Yandex LLC have introduced semantic technologies and NLP algorithms into OpenEdX's support system. Semantic technologies are commonly used in the field of Big Data to help structure information; for that reason, semantic representation of the educational platform's content can help its users search for the necessary information a lot faster.

• Prime Minister Medvedev Congratulates ACM ICPC Winners

  Last month, ITMO University’s team, for the seventh time in history, was awarded the World Cup of ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest. Today they were congratulated on their achievement in person by Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. He met with the students in Konstantinovsky Palace in Strelna. The meeting was also attended by Rector Vladimir Vasilyev, Vladimir Parfenov, Dean of Information Technologies and Programming Faculty, and Roman Elizarov, ITMO alumni and member of ACM ICPC’s organizational board.

• 6th International Council Meeting: Looking at the Map of the Future Together

  The 6th Meeting of ITMO’s International Council was held in St. Petersburg on June 11 at ITMO University. The meeting brought together some ten International Council members and key management staff at ITMO University.   International Conference on Computational Science (ICCS) 2017 got off to a great start in Zurich, Switzerland, on June 12, with top researchers exploring the latest developments in computational methods in a variety of scientific fields. It’s organized by our partners at the Computational Science Lab of the University of Amsterdam, among other distinguished organizations, and is supported by ITMO University.
