• ITMO Student Wins AI Journey Contest 2021

  Ammar Ali, a PhD student from ITMO University’s Information Technologies and Programming Faculty, has become a winner and runner-up, respectively, of two high-profile competitions in AI and computer vision: AI Journey Contest by Sberbank and Evraz AI Challenge by Evraz. Thus, the student continued his winning streak, which began in early 2021 when he won a competition organized by the American National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and supported by NASA. We talked to Ammar to find out how he managed to combine these two latest achievements and what he plans to do next.

• Team of ITMO’s Youth Robotics Lab Deemed Best Novices at RoboCup 2021 Finals

  ITMO’s team became best among novices at the international finals of RoboCup 2021. Their winning project was Robert Robotecky, a robot musician that performed the popular French song Sous le Ciel de Paris.

  Today, on June 9, 2021, the winners of the prestigious international SABRE Awards were announced. ITMO University’s DIGITAL NATIVE campaign entered the list of finalists for the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) region and received the top award in the category Educational and Cultural Institutions.

• RAEX National Ranking: ITMO in Top 15 Russian Universities

  The ranking agency RAEX has published its tenth annual ranking of Russian universities. For the fourth year in a row, ITMO is included in the top 15 of the ranking, this year being 14th on the list.

• QS World University Rankings: ITMO University Secures its Position in the Global Top-400

  Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a British company specializing in the analysis of the global higher education market, has unveiled its latest edition of the QS World University Rankings. Like last year, ITMO University is named among the world’s top 400 universities.

• Expert Center Ranking: ITMO University First in Russia in Engineering Sciences

  According to the ranking of the Expert analytic center, ITMO’s performance in 2020 placed it in the top 5 Russian universities, also making it the number one in engineering sciences. ITMO was also named the best in four other subjects. All in all, the university was represented by 13 disciplines out of the 16 currently offered at ITMO.

• ITMO and LETI Students’ Quick-Charge Startup for Electric Cars To Receive Million Rubles from EnergyHUB

  The startup Powerplace, a participant of ITMO’s Energy Club, has developed a smart module for use in quick-charge stations for electric cars and is now set to receive a prize of one million rubles for its win in the student startup competition EnergyHUB. The startup was co-founded by an ITMO student, an ITMO graduate, and three graduates of LETI (St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University).
