IT for Financial Experts: Bank Saint Petersburg Employees Received ITMO University Professional Development Certificates
The conference hall of Bank Saint Petersburg hosted the closing ceremony of the professional development course created by ITMO University’s National Center for Cognitive Technologies (NCCT). Each participant was granted standard-issue certificates and three students with the highest scores received special gifts from the NCCT. Russian School Students Score a Resounding Victory at the 2019 International Olympiad in Informatics
A team of Russian school students helmed by coaches from the country’s leading universities has won four gold medals becoming best in the team event at the 2019 International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI). In IOI’s individual event, Russia’s Ildar Gainullin posted the world’s second-best result. One of the most prestigious computer science competitions in the world, this year’s Olympiad is being held on August 4-11 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Ghent University Professor: Every Patient Should Have Their Own Heart Model

International Olympiad in Informatics 2018 Winners: Even If You’re Tired, Don’t Lose Sight of Your Goals
This September, Russian school students managed to win not one, but four prizes at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) in Japan. Two members of the winning team, golden and silver medalists Ramazan Rakhmatullin from Kazan and Mikhail Anoprenko from St. Petersburg, have now enrolled at ITMO University’s Information Technologies and Programming Faculty, where they continue their training under the associate professor Andrey Stankevich and dream of one day becoming champions of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest. ITMO.NEWS met the students to find out how to get into programming, why you shouldn’t give up if you haven’t made it to an international competition on your first try, and how being a contestant can come in handy in everyday life.

ITMO University Launches Digital Humanities Research Lab
DHlab is going to be the first initiative in St. Petersburg that is dedicated to Digital Humanities, a field of science right at the junction between IT and liberal arts. Among the research interests of the new laboratory that brought together both programmers and specialists in humanities are data visualization, mapping, and integrating such technologies as Big Data and machine learning into interdisciplinary projects.

Dining with Laureates: ITMO PhD Student Shares His Experience of the Sixth Heidelberg Forum
Every year, young scientists from all over the world come to the German city of Heidelberg to take part in the Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF), a networking event for young mathematicians and computer scientists willing to meet with the world’s leading researchers in these fields. To be allowed to participate, young scientists have to undergo a rigorous selection process, but if you succeed, you are given an opportunity to not only listen to laureates’ speeches but also talk to them in person in an informal setting. Besides, participants can showcase their own ideas and get an expert opinion. Javlon Isomurodov, a PhD student from ITMO’s Information Technologies and Programming Faculty, also partake in the forum. In this interview with ITMO.NEWS, he talks about how the selection process is organized and what opportunities the forum brings to young scientists.

Specialists From eScience Research Institute Participate in ICCS 2018
ITMO’s eScience Research Institute staff and students recently participated in the International Conference on Computational Science that took place in the city of Wuxi in China. This event is most important for the field’s scientists, as it sets the trends for future research. The ICCS conference has been running since 2001, and now gathers no less than 350 prominent researchers, which provides for great opportunities to establish new contacts.
