Modern Visual Effects: Applications and Software
Trailers of upcoming films usually give rise to heated discussions in social media. Still, in 2019, the situation is different: people seem to show disdain for the visual effects in the upcoming films and ask to do them over. Such a thing happened to Sonic when the studio decided to change the character’s appearance and postponed the movie’s release; Cats were subject to the same fate, although in this case, the release hasn’t been postponed yet. Users mocked the creative solutions of studios and came up with memes where they wondered what happened to the people responsible for visual effects in the film industry. According to Alexander Baulin, Science and Technology Editor at Forbes, such an approach doesn't always work. This academic year marks the start of ITMO University’s brand-new Art&Science Master’s program, Russia’s first-ever education program exploring the cutting-edge field of scientific art. Transcending Humanity: Evolution of Technological Art
Last week, the first FUTURE ART festival was held in St. Petersburg. The event explored the cutting-edge sphere of BioArt, an Art&Science current encompassing the synthesis of artistic, scientific, creative, and technological methods of contemporary art-making. BioArt adherents work with live materials and organic processes. In her FUTURE ART lecture, art expert and head of ITMO’s Art & Science Center Anastasiia Yarmosh talked about how the technological art changed over the years, in which direction it is now heading, and what questions it deals with today.
