ITMO University in 2021: A Year in Review
This year we celebrated 121 years of ITMO University. As with any other year, we had no shortage of challenges – but nothing we couldn’t rise above. There were also great new achievements to be proud of, such as grants, prizes, and awards and some extraordinary research accomplishments. On the international scale, we welcomed nearly 900 new international students.

How Indian Students Celebrate the Holidays of Dussehra and Diwali
India is known as the land of festivals and fairs. The month of October, in particular, is the most exciting time of the year. The air is filled with happiness, laughter, and the smell of delicious street food. The major festivals celebrated during this time are Navaratri/Dussehra/Durga Puja and Diwali. I caught up with a few international students from India at ITMO to find out how they plan to celebrate these holidays in St. Petersburg, and also share some of my own experiences.

ITMO Team Wins Bronze at IST-2021
The International Scientific Tournament, or IST for short, is a competition for students in the fields of natural sciences: physics, chemistry, and biology. Over the course of several days, the participants compete to solve interdisciplinary scientific challenges. A team that included four Master’s students of ITMO’s international research center SCAMT placed among the top three in this year’s competition.

ITMO Student Wins NOAA Machine Learning Competition
Ammar Ali, a Master’s student at ITMO’s Information Technology and Programming Faculty, took first place in the American National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) competition where he had to create a model that predicts disturbances in the Earth’s geomagnetic field.
