• Scientists from ITMO Discover a New Way to Create Reconfigurable Topological States of Light

  A team of researchers from ITMO University and Australian National University came up with a new concept of photonic topological structures. Localized states of light in such structures appear not due to the intentionally designed lattice geometry but rather because of spatial variation of particles' properties.

• SEE: Our Cities Project – Study Design Without Borders

  A total of 16 international schools of architecture and design from all over the world have joined their forces under the aegis of Thomas Jefferson University (USA) in order to create a digital course in urban design during the pandemic. Online learning allows students to enter programs from the world’s leading universities. The Creative Lighting Department of ITMO University is the first and so far the only Russian institution that joined the SEE: Our Cities project.

  Scientists from ITMO University have created a testing device to detect tick-borne encephalitis that can be used to identify the virus at home. The results of this work have been published in ACS Applied Bio Materials.

• Researchers from ITMO and University of Toronto Develop Non-Antibiotic Material to Fight Infection and Mend Wounds

  In the future, the material could be used in the production of wound dressings that would hold their own even against antibiotic-resistant bacteria. An article on the results of the research was published in Chemistry of Materials.
