  • ITMO Scientists Receive Alferov Foundation Award

    Sergei Makarov and Alexander Krasnuk, senior researchers at the Department of Nanophotonics and Metamaterials received the Foundation for Support of Education and Science (Alferov's Foundation) award for their research on non-linear tunable semiconductor and hybrid nanoantennas. According to the jury, their main scientific achievement was the development of a new platform for photonic devices based on dielectric nanoantennas in optical band, as well as the use of femtosecond laser technologies in creation of ultrafast optical nanodevices. In an interview with our newsportal, Sergei Makarov talked about new optical modulators and the work of the recently founded Laboratory of Hybrid Nanophotonics and Optoelectronics.

  • Students Contribute to the City : ITMO's Students Completed Projects for the City Administration

    ITMO's students completed a series projects on the order of St. Petersburg City Administration and analyzed the work of railroads, imports phase-out, as well as systems for motivating employees and increasing their efficiency. Best projects took part in the Students Contribute to the City contest; its participants received diplomas and awards. Their projects were praised by Vice-Governor Vladimir Kirillov; ITMO's Rector Vladimir Vasilyev underlined that such events give students the opportunity to be assessed by real experts.

  • Young Scientists from ITMO University Receive Presidential Grants

    On May 30, during a special ceremony, 53 young scientists from St. Petersburg's universities and institutions of the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg were given presidential grants. ITMO University was represented by five researchers who received grants in the Physics and Astronomy category. In an interview for ITMO.NEWS, the researchers shared about their research.

  • Awards Given to ITMO University’s Most Successful and Prolific Alumni

    From 27th to 29th of April the Alumni Week was held at ITMO University. During this time every alumni, student or an employee had the chance to listen to lectures, learn about bringing ideas to life with the university’s help, get acquainted with the equipment at FabLab Technopark and find out about the ITMO University Alumni Association and the features of its new format. The “First Alumni Awards” contest was held as part of the events. On April 29th, during the week’s closing concert, the names of winners in a number of categories of the ITMO University Alumni Association Awards were announced as per the results of an online poll.

  • ITMO's Team Nominated for the "Top 50 Most famous people in St. Petersburg"

    At the beginning of summer, Sobaka.ru newspaper conducted its traditional annual "Top 50 Most famous people in St. Petersburg" award. A couple of days ago, the newspaper launched the internet-poll for 2017's nominees. The names of winners will be announced during the award ceremony which will take place on June, 5, at St. Petersburg Theatre of Musical Comedy. As the team from ITMO University competes for the title of the city's main science newsmaker in the Science and Life nomination, ITMO.NEWS would like to share about university’s representatives and their competitors.

  • Vadim Veiko: “Lasers Are Omnipotent”

    Professor Vadim Veiko, head of the Department of Laser Systems and Technologies, was awarded with the Order II Class "For Merit to the Fatherland" for his contribution to science and education. The professor is one of the stakeholders of laser technologies in Russia – in 1965 he established a laboratory and in the 1980s – the first chair of laser technologies. In the interview he talked about his recent research projects, forecasts about the future of technologies and his hobby, which helps him conquer new peaks.

  • St. Tatiana Badge of Honor Conferral at the Smolny Cathedral

    On January, 25th — the Student's Day in Russia — notable representatives of St. Petersburg universities and chosen citizens were conferred with St. Tatiana's Badges of Honor for their contribution to spiritual and ethical education and social activity. The ceremony was held at the Smolny Cathedral, which has been the "Cathedral of all educational establishments" since 1835.

  • Professor Xi-Cheng Zhang Is Awarded by Selby Scientific Foundation

    Xi-Cheng Zhang, head of ITMO’s International Institute "Photonics and Optical Information Technology", received a prestigious award by Selby Scientific Foundation established by Australian Academy of Science. Every year this award is given for only one international scientist.
