Manufacturable from nearly any material and boasting a range of attractive qualities, they’re a godsend to many researchers in various fields, from medical diagnostics to environmental monitoring. A new word in wireless charging
In just a few years, wireless charging stations have gone from sci-fi fantasy to a mundane piece of tech. And yet, they’re still limited in format and active radius. Researchers from ITMO have taken the technology to the next level with their “charger box” – a structure roughly the size of a microwave – that can provide an equal amount of charge to as many as three devices at once, regardless of their location within it. With a charging radius more than 10 times that of most contemporary devices, it’s an achievement enough – but the researchers are already talking about scaling up their invention to the size of a whole room.
To the stratosphere and beyond
Last month, a group of ITMO students and researchers, along with their colleagues from other universities, launched a probe into the upper levels of Earth’s atmosphere as part of a medical research initiative. Their goal: to see how low gravity affects the growth of bone tissue. The project, which began as a theoretical one but soon turned experimental thanks to its creators’ passion, may ultimately prove useful in the development of future space stations.
