The Congress of Young Scientists is an annual conference held at ITMO since 2004. Its goal is to help school and university students try their hand at “grown-up” science, hone their public speaking skills, and even publish their first journal articles via the CYS proceedings, which is included in the Russian Science Citation Index. The congress is also one of the best ways to apply to ITMO, as the authors of the best reports are enrolled into the university’s programs without entrance exams.
This year, the congress program was split into 65 subject areas, with 83 online, offline, and mixed-format sessions taking place over three days. All in all, 2,413 people were involved in the event. Out of the total of 1,811,
-
1,479 reports were delivered by young scientists from ITMO University (367 by PhD, 614 by Master’s, and 480 by Bachelor’s students, along with 18 by staff members);
-
332 reports were delivered by researchers from other educational institutions (33 by PhD, 22 by Master’s, 178 by Bachelor’s, and 84 by school students, with 14 by university employees).
At the end of the congress, 1,805 reports were selected for publication in its proceedings, which are included in the Russian Science Citation Index.
In the Best Report by Young Scientists category, 289 participants were awarded the win and will receive additional perks when applying to ITMO. In the Best Report by School Student category, 29 people were declared winners. The award ceremony took place during the ITMO Open Science Rocks festival at Sevkabel Port on April 6.
XII Congress of Young Scientists was supported by Vladimir Nikiforov, ITMO’s Vice Rector for Research.
